I Disagree With The Pope

On this video we discuss a public statement the pope made which I believe to be inconsistent with Christian doctrine. To back up my claim I will be translating his talk word by word from Italian which is my first language and then we'll jump into interlinear Greek to English gospel reading and translation to compare his statements and philosophy to what Jesus Christ Himself taught.

Feel free to share your opinions in the comments but please remain civil. Thank you very much for watching and for being here! I hope you enjoy this video.

The Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic Church and the Bishop of Rome. As the supreme pontiff, he provides spiritual leadership to over 1.3 billion Catholics worldwide. The Pope oversees the governance of the Catholic Church, wielding ultimate authority in matters of faith, morals, and church administration.
In addition to his religious role, the Pope is also the sovereign of Vatican City, an independent city-state located within Rome. The papacy has a long history, tracing its origins to Saint Peter, who is considered the first Pope and one of Jesus Christ's apostles.
Popes are elected by the College of Cardinals, typically following the death or resignation of the previous Pope. Their influence extends beyond religious matters, as they often speak on social, ethical, and sometimes political issues of global importance.
The Pope holds various titles, including "Vicar of Christ," "Successor of Saint Peter," and "Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church." The current Pope is Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who was elected in 2013. He's known for his relatively progressive stances on several issues and his focus on social justice and environmental concerns.

The verse John 14:6 is from the New Testament of the Bible. It reads:
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
This verse is considered significant in Christian theology for several reasons:
Jesus is asserting that He is the sole path to God (referred to as "the Father"). This is often interpreted as meaning that salvation or a relationship with God is only possible through Jesus Christ.
Jesus describes himself using three key concepts:

"The way" - suggesting he is the path or means to reach God
"The truth" - implying he embodies or represents absolute truth
"The life" - indicating he is the source of spiritual or eternal life

This statement comes during Jesus' farewell discourse to his disciples, where he's preparing them for his departure (crucifixion, death, and resurrection).
This verse is often cited in discussions about religious pluralism, the uniqueness of Christianity, and the nature of salvation.

Christianity is a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, with approximately 2.4 billion followers worldwide. It originated in the 1st century CE as a Jewish sect and has since become the world's largest religion. Christians believe in one God existing in three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and the Bible as the inspired word of God. The religion is divided into major branches including Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and various Protestant denominations. Christian practices include worship services, prayer, Bible study, sacraments or ordinances such as baptism and communion, and charitable work. Christianity has profoundly influenced Western culture, art, philosophy, and law throughout history. The core tenets revolve around Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, with his teachings forming the basis for Christian ethics and morality. Christians strive to follow Jesus' example and teachings, seeking to spread their faith and live according to biblical principles.

If I had a nickel for every time an Italian disagreed with the Pope I would have enough to pay off my (American) student loans.

Catholic here 👋 big fan (so is my brother btw).

It really upsets me when Pope Francis says crap like this, off-the-cuff heretical statements. He also recently said "The Gospel of Jesus Christ alone is the source of life for mankind, " so these statements seem to be contradictory. I don't think he thinks his words through before he speaks. And he seems to be a horrible theologian.

I appreciate you candor and translation. Glory be to Jesus Christ our King. Hope you come back to Rome one day, brother 🙏

I'm Jewish but i cringe when people dilute or compromise the beliefs of their religion to please others. We can be completely honest with eachother and still love and respect eachother.

Remember when "is the Pope Catholic?" was rhetorical? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

He’s made a very dangerous statement- “all religions are the same” is something the young are apt to say before abandoning religion.

I am a Catholic and I am frequently very confused by Pope Francis. Pope-splainers are working overtime but I don't see how this can possibly fall within Catholicism at all.

As a Roman Catholic from Poland, I strongly agree with you, not Pope, in this case. Jesus is THE way, there is no other.

The Pope stated heresy when he denied that Christ is the only way to the Father.

As one of your oldest Muslim audience members, I kept avoiding any religious video you uploaded because I mainly subscribed for historical content. Despite that, for some reason, I watched this video, and I have to say that I totally agree with you (not having any intention to offend the pope, of course). I also enjoyed it. It was informative and added to my knowledge of a different religion than mine and how the situation is analysed through the scope of Christians.
The most important sentence you said in this video is that we should focus on what we have in common rather than faking our ideologies to please others, which is very similar to a piece lf wisdom we have in our religion, and if we're civil enough and willing then we could discuss about our differences. Being honest about your belief is not offensive to me at all. Rather, lying about it is so. And I hope no Christian gets offended by my humble feedback to the video...
Peace and blessings to you all 🙏

I can't go through all the comments to see if anybody else mentioned this, but the problem wasn't with the live translation shown here. The Vatican put out a different English version on its website that watered down the Pope's remarks, saying all religions "are seen as" roads to God. When people started pointing out that this was inaccurate (and not found in the Italian text or the other translations), it was quickly taken down and replaced with the correct English translation.

20:00 As a practicing and informed Hindu, I must say, you're wrong here. There are mainly two words or concepts that may be understood by the word "God" in Hinduism: Deva and Īshvara.
Devas are the typical pantheon of gods that westerners are usually familiar with. Īshvara is the One, all knowing, all controlling, etc. deity, which comes close to the upper case God of the western religions. All of the different sects/denominations of Hinduism believe in these two concepts simultaneously. All of them. The differences between the denominations is largely which of the Devas they see as being the supreme Īshvara, and what is the relationship of the individual souls with them. And the sects may not even be mutually exclusive. A devotee of Vishnu may even genuinely believe that for some people Shiva may be the way to Ishvara. And that ultimately, they are not different.

This is not some post-colonial reconciliation. This idea has existed right since the Rgveda.

I'm not at all saying that Hinduism is compatible with Christianity, Islam or Judaism. It's not. But what I am saying is that the idea of one God is neither foreign nor offensive to Hindus.
