Let's Challenge Ageism and Aging Stereotypes!

This video is about ageism. I think ageism is one of the few isms still relatively acceptable in society. It is the prejudice and discrimination against older people.

The marketing messages today are not neutral - articles on "How to Look Younger" are becoming an obsession! Skincare products are not about healthy skin, but younger looking skin.

Why not talk about aging beautifully or positive aging?

There's just no way we're going to get out of aging. I say we should all make the best of it! Take care of ourselves, look our best, stay social and busy and especially be generous with our time and talents! We can change their minds!

As a self-employed senior caregiver, my age is an asset rather than a liability. Most of my clients and their families appreciate having an older woman on board. My work has actually gotten easier because I no longer take clients that require lifting, transfer from wheelchair, showering, or strenuous housekeeping or cooking. I am now mostly a companion for wealthier clients and grateful to be paid a generous wage. I work as many or as few hours as I please. Nice work if you can get it.

Children atimes maltreat their parents. They think they are now better. They look down on them
