Mum tries out Android 4.2.2 (2013) on a Surface Pro

Apple's iOS isn't the only tablet and phone operating system available. In fact Sales of Android Phones worldwide are higher than the sales of iPhone's as of December 2012. Android devices are very affordable and currently there are over 800,000 apps in the google play store for Android. What's it like to use an Android Tablet though? Let's find out ;)

The mother in this video uses Windows XP (2001) as her main OS duel booted with Elementary OS (a fast Linux distro). I have Android Lollipop 5.1. I like this OS, because it is much more customizable as iOS without Jailbreak/Rooting.

Android is more like a desktop or laptop computer that you can customize it MUCH more and do many things that apple users must jailbreak their devices

The best Android tablet is the Google Nexus 7 2nd Generation released in July 2013. The 16GB Wi-Fi was $229.  The difference between Google/Microsoft & Apple is that Google & Microsoft are primarily software companies, whereas Apple makes both hardware & software and Apple does not allow it's OS to be copied to other devices, , so you don't have hardware choices when it comes to Apple. You have many Android & Windows devices to choose from

Android Devices aren't always supposed to be cheap for example the Galaxy S6 is over 500 dollars unlocked and the nexus 9 is 399-499 dollars (United States)

Generally we try operating systems out of the box anyway and it was hard enough getting android to run on surface pro so I was kind of over modifying it anymore.

On the Surface Pro, you can install a program called Bluestacks. This will allow you to run all Android apps on an x86 PC. They have a version that is optimized for Windows 8 touch screens. I have this on my Surface and to be honest, I haven't been back to the Windows store--except to install Fresh Paint.

A quick google search for android tablets for sale in Australia only showed results for cheap tablets. I am not knocking android in this video saying it's for poor people... I am saying its a great os that's able to run on a variety of tablets with over 800, 000 apps even on cheap tablets. Oh course I now know that you can run android on more expensive tablets as well for a better experience but overall its great that android tablets come in so many different shapes, sizes and prices.

Guy at work bought one of those HP touchpads when they went fire sale at $99 and put Android ICS on it. It worked great.
