I had heard of the "Churchill Tank", used in WWII, but had no idea he funded the development of the first tank in 1915, using 70 thousand pounds from the Admiralty fund. Some historians assert that it was illegally financed, while more maintain that he was acting within his jurisdiction. In any case, his vision for England had always been expansive.

This is a small part of my conversation with Daniel Yergin, the Pulitzer winning author of "The Prize." I recommend checking out the full interview, up on my channel now! It was a great honor to speak with him.

Churchill only changed to oil-driven ships after getting to see the Danish oceangoing vessel "The Selandia", the World's first Diesel-driven ship, build in 1911.

England has coal, Scotland has oil (and coal)

And then there's his other brilliant WW1 innovation, the Dardanelles campaign.

Nearly 60% casualties, including 35, 000 out of 60, 000 Anzacs, and absolutely nothing gained, except arguably prolonging the war for many months if not years.

Don't know bout ships but locomotives had auto stokers in the twenties.

Fuel oil made ships able to close with an enemy without being spotted as far away. Coal smoke gave advance notice.

He also stopped the handover of three dreadnought ships to the ottomans after receiving full payment for them. This was the pivotal reason for Turkey joining the war on the German side. His obstinacy in attacking the Dardanelles even after explicitly being told not to do so by Asquith and others caused him his political career which would have been a footnote had it not been for the disastrous Chamberlain government 20 years later

Churchill in fact did not make up the idea of oil-fired warships

Brilliant Churchill. If his fellow PMs had listened to him years before they finally did, Germany could have been stopped when they first broke the WWI treaty of Versailles, by building munitions factory, since that was forbidden in that treaty. Weak men ruled all of Europe then. Weak men always lead to catastrophe.

It was always called a Tank, it was a code name so the Germans might think it was a water tank

"We'll be dependent on coal from far away lands" I'm sure this wont be or cause any problems in the future in any shape or form

Many western media & books wrote what a great leader Churchill was. But very few dared to report how many innocent Indian lives he has caused to die due to his biased discrimination towards Indians.

He was also responsible for the disaster at Gallipoli as well as the disrespect given to
British working people. This was why he lost the election after the war. It should never be forgotten that he was a bigoted elitist.

Churchill wasn’t necessarily a great strategist. He tended to confuse military objectives with purely political goals. His strength was very much as a diplomat and a public figure.

Churchill pushed the Navy and the ANZAC to the Dardanelles; he was full of great ideas

Instead of converting to oil why didn't they just use coal dust instead then use air to fill the ships bunkers and boilers?
