brilliant.

I'm 25 too, probably quit cigarettes for a bazillion times. Now is the time to truly stop it.

Not a huge fan of Jordan but I enjoy his transparency. I love hearing people tell stories.

This gives me a lot of strength. I also drink a lot of alcohol lately and I also started smoking in the last few months. I honestly feel like shit. I am 19 and I can't tell which way is up or down in my life. Nothing goes right in my life. I feel depressed. I can't see a way out of this madness honestly... The fact that people have been through this and have overcome it, gives me a lot of hope

If Jordan Peterson was what he was and turned out to be the way he is now, we all have hope. Of course he never lost interest in his passion and that was probably what saved him. Addictions distract most from their main goals and that’s what is the saddest and most harmful part…

Honesty and openness is always refreshing to hear. I’ve always enjoyed listening to Jordan.

Started smoking the odd cigarette offered to me by me peers at 15. I quickly became addicted. The kids smoking outside WERE the cool kids. They were good at sports, decent at social skills. Most we're not outcasts in any way.

Flash forward to 26, and a thousand excuses not to quit later. I'm down to 2 cigarettes a day, from 10-15. Yesterday i didn't have any all day. Before i went to bed i cried. Gone was my "happy" habit, and the dopamine i clinged to and abused. I smoked to celebrate something good happening, and when i was feeling down. As someone trying to quit smoking now, I'm fighting against myself. My brain. The primitive parts mostly. The ones seeking and begging for instant gratification. A part of my brain already noticed the damage done by these fucking cancer sticks. Very mild gum recession, pale skin, fine lines creeping in. It's a habit that takes a 1000 things, youth, money, your literal health. Damages every organ, EVERY cell in your body. It damages the very being of you, and your possibility to stay alive and experience this universe.

Why even postpone the habit, when the damage is done now, everyday you smoke. Fight through your brain trying to trick you, the feeling of emptiness, the lack of a quick happy pill. Quitting such a habit is NOT going to be easy. Brilliant minds, and some of the brighest heads were smokers too. It's not about being a dumb smoker or a smart smoker. It's about the fact that this addiction is freaking hard for many. If you accomplish this single task, your overall health will improve. Imagine that. You don't even need to go to the gym and lift anything, or change your diet habits. All you have to think about is not doing something. Isn't that a perfect thing to do if you are also a lazy person?

I wish you all success and health. I will start today. No more New Year resolutions, no nothing. Your body is ticking with the clock, the second.. not on a yearly basic. What you do or don't today will affect your tomorrow. There IS a life after quitting cigarettes. But a life with cigarettes will be a worse life. To health!

This is cool to hear him talk about himself at such a young age. Interesting.

People of higher intelligence and more feeling and in touch with feelings and things tend to be prone to additive traits

Pretty identical to my experience with cigarettes and alcohol. Started at 14 and had a 7 year stretch. Been sober 7 years now. Still smoke, but I’m free from the bottle.

This reminds me of myself . I’m 29 now, a junior awaiting a bachelors in computer science . When I was 19-23 I was pretty wild and reckless . I always had the intelligence but I lived in Chicago and always was in trouble . Dropped out at 17. Getting arrested all the time . Was like 125-130lbs with long hair and baggy clothes .

Back then even working a normal job or staying in a classroom was near impossible. But here I am hoping to become a machine learning engineer

At 24 I just quit cigs after 10 years of smoking but alcohol is really hard to quit, I was once 2 years without after I had drank for months straight but I hope I can someday turn my life around, hardest thing about being in mid 20's is if you don't have a vision for your life you can easily get sucked into complete depression...20's is the hardest struggle I've had in my life lmao

Im 20 and have been feeling stuck, i was in film school and left because ive already had done filming and so much since 6 i wasn’t learning. Im a pizza driver trying to save, but im just at a point where im not motivated because im 20 and feel like my life should be all together. This video makes me feel better, of course its not like im just not gonna move forward, but it does motivate me in a sense i have too many years ahead, at least i think, who knows if ill get in a car crash and die and this is all a waste, my best friend had that happen to him, he was as close to me as my parents maybe more..

First step is to smoke only when allowed and not based on when you feel like it. But to do that you need to want to follow the schedule. So make a schedule with so much smoking so you like the schedule. After you've been conditioned to only follow the schedule, you can strategically decrease very little. Do this for a month.

When you're completely following the schedule decrease it like by one cigarette first week, and next decrease it by 2 and next by 3 and so on.
