Shocking Aerial Views of Global Inequality

Have you ever wondered how social inequality can be seen from the sky?

Miller uses drones to record how social inequalities are reflected in urban spaces from an aerial perspective. The project began in South Africa, where the scars of apartheid still shape the landscape, with physical barriers separating the rich and the poor. But he also took his lens to Mexico, India, and other countries, where the contrast in access to basic services is just as stark.

Miller’s photos do more than document reality – they provoke thought. By visually and impactfully highlighting the scars left by years of exclusion, he invites us to rethink our cities.

Each image shows a clear division: luxurious neighborhoods alongside informal settlements. This discrepancy, often unnoticed at ground level, becomes evident when viewed from above, exposing the brutal reality of inequality.

The next time you look at a city, try to imagine how these divisions manifest. Maybe we can see, from the ground, what Johnny Miller sees from the sky: an urgent call for greater social justice.

That’s why in the UK & particularly London, councils put social housing amongst the wealthy areas, in fact all areas are a mix of rich and poor.

It doesn't have to be this way! We have to continue to rally our governments to do more to provide assistance and force corporations to pay their fair share. Keep fighting, friends! We can make things better!
