Grow Avocado Tree from Seed in Water

It is a lot of fun to grow Avocado Tree from Seed in water. First start with a ripe avocado. Cut the avocado length wise right down the middle all the way around. Open up of the sliced avocado to reveal the seed and slightly nudge the seed out of the avocado. Next peel the outer brown layer of the seed. Now Insert toothpicks in the seed. Fill a cup upto 70% with water and place the avocado seed in the cup. The toothpicks should sit on the rim of the cup while atleast half of the seed should be submerged in water.

After four months since starting the seed, the stalk of the tree grows taller and the first set of leaves fully develop. The stalk is now 14 inches tall. It is absolutely amazing to clearly see a tree growing out of the seed right in front of my eyes. The tree is now ready to be planted. This has been an amazing experiment to grow an avocado tree from seed.

Great Video. I too am growing an Avocado Tree from Seed using the Water Method and after 2 months, it has started rooting. I can’t wait until it is big enough to pot. I am going to give it to a coworker as a gift.

Would love to see an update on how your avocado tree is coming along. I’m going to try this with my kids. 😊

My husband grew an avocado tree from seed, it’s been more than 5-6 years now it grew well about 15 feet tall already. Like what you said it’s hardly bear fruits, I mean lucky if it gave us 2-3 fruits a year sometimes nothing. The tree is healthy though we just keep it to give us shade on sunny day but for the fruits don’t expect much. That’s from our experience planting from seeds. Thanks for the video.

I can so relate to the excitement in your voice. Very hard to explain the happiness and excitement, which you get by looking at the whole process from seed to plant to fruit even. I love your channel. Just subscribed.

How do I stop my avocado from getting algae on the seeds and roots? I clean the glass jar almost every day and the algae grows back after one day. It's also currently sitting on my sunny window sill so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it

Honestly, This is so interesting.
I have tried it. it was growth so fast, I just need 3 weeks for the seed to split.
I started it on Feb 28. the tree has been growth to 23 cm tall.
is it ready to move it to soil?

(Because of this I feel so greatful to live in tropical country.)

I’d like to see how it’s doing in the pot now. I am growing one and everything was fine until about a month ago then it began to have leaf curl. I read that it could be getting too much water and getting root rot, so I took it our of the pot, cleaned off the roots to clip back any bad roots. There were no rotting roots. The roots look perfectly healthy, so I potted it back up, but it’s still struggling. I have it in a my living room in a south facing window. Wish 8 knew what was wrong with it. 🙁

Does the seed have to be tan in color? I see a short cut, exposing red flesh, in my seed. Should I plant that cut seed?
