Can we talk about how well that medieval lathe works? It's amazing what you can do with string and a food pedal...

Did they have points like that?
I’m in the USA and use blunts to hunt small game, you can buy ones with rubber tips or like I do just use an empty .38 cartridge case on the end of the shaft
I wonder how much difference the head like you made would be from a metal one in accuracy?

Like your pole lathe, I have a few antique treadle lathes

I was always told its not that people used them because of a cost difference, but because of regulation, more or less.

Pointed arrows, metal or wood, could take large game, like deer.

Where as blunted tips were Only effective on small game.

So in some regions having sharp tips, would be assumed for hunting the “kings deer” and you would essentially get in trouble for poaching

I kind oflike the idea of a work and rest stroke on a lathe, gives time to hit exactly where you need to. I knew they had a way of doing it, this is just the first time ive seen it in action. Really cool.

Love the Spring-Pole Lathe. Cut on the rotation TOWARDS you, Burnish as the piece rotates AWAY.
This guy plainly knows how to sharpen a chisel.
