Prisons can be some of the most dangerous places in any country. We are about to visit the worst prison systems in the world. Committing a crime that lands you in jail in any of these countries may be the last thing you ever do, as those who go in almost never come out. As we make our way through the nations with the worst prisons, you may be surprised to find that some of the most developed nations on the planet have made it onto our list.

Meanwhile in Norway and Sweden prisoners live on resorts or ranches with TVs, fridges, desks, huge comfortable beds, living rooms, gyms, and other luxuries that would seems fitting in a high class hotel or apartment. I think most of us would want to be arrested in those places

I always remember this story about a man who went to prison in North Korea for stealing a sign. I can’t recollect how long the sentence was - I think it was about 15 years. I also don’t remember if he done the whole sentence too. But I do remember the footage of him coming off a plane that landed in the US. He was so weak, could barely stand properly and malnourished he died within months returning from Korea. Now seeing what they do in North Korean prison, it’s no wonder the man was in that state.

I think the explanation about how it is in Venezuela just fell short. They not only have improvised weapons. They have grenades, assault rifles, sub-machine guns... They've even shot RPGs in few occasions. In one of the prisons the inmates even got a disco built, called "Tokio". They orchestrate crimes even across neighboring countries, such as Colombia. Venezuelan prisons could easily be the worst in the world.

The irony about Singapore is that they are supposed to be a law and order country but the triads operate with impunity. They seldom ever go to jail, only poor people with no triads connection

The Philippines prison system may not be the worst but their legal system is mental. An Australian friend of mine was falsely accused of a crime in mid 2014 and arrested. He's been in detention/prison there ever since and, nearly 9 years later, still hasn't been convicted of anything.

Prison is for reform, it is not a vacation. Why do those of us who obey the law have to take care of those who do not obey the law? I kind of like the “escape from NY” way, just section off an island and let them loose to fend for themselves.

What about Indian prisons? they're not just overcrowed, but are also corrupted due to presence of an incompetent and a corrupted staff.
