I spent ages trying to work this out by myself and I just made it worse.

Guys before you do this make sure your disk is Dynamic or else you wont be able to merge the partitions and the greyed disk will not be used unless you reformat your disk. How to check your disk if it's dynamic:
follow these steps:

step1 : open RUN.

step2: type CMD.

step3: now a black screen will appear. type in DISKPART. and click YES.

step4: now another black screen will appear.

step 5: type in LIST DISK and press enter

u will see this info:

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
--- ---

if u see any star * under Dyn field . then it is a dynamic

if not its a basic..

Thanks, it was helping. However, it is good to mention that you have to delete the partition next to that one you want to extend. When you delete a partition it'll allow you to extend only one partition which is the partition just before the deleted one.

Thanks so much! Really because of this way I extended the volume of Local disk C! Thanks so much again.

For example, if you have two separate hard drives, it is impossible to "merge" the two hard drives together even with the hard drive partitions that you did at first when installing windows. You can only do it on 2 hard drive partitions that were originally 1 hard drive partition

Thanks a bunch! My Y530 came with a redundant partition and this method worked.

The issue here is that you can only extend your primāri partition with windows on it. Others are not extendable. I somehow managed to make C: drive 700 gigs and D: drive 200 gigs when I wanted the opposite, though I came up with a simple setup. 350 gigs C: for system files, 350 gigs D: for all the programs I use daily and/or games, and 200 gigs E: for Desktop and other stuff. I recommend you better make three partitions just like that and organize them the way you prefer.

And what to do if Extend Volume is still grayed out after deleting the second partition?

fmr been wondering this issue since upgrading my 256 to 500 and software provided promptly split my new hd into two.
suppose I was afraid to click the "delete volume" bar
12 seconds of this 43 second icon unpuckered my ass of many guesses and solutions possibly costing me $$$ with acronis or other.
not sure what the other 30 seconds are about but I'm of freedom some basic issue. ty
were your issue as exactly pointed to problem as this post was to mine then nothing but thumbs up. tyvm.

Why does it say it there is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation? Please help!

Works fine just DELETE THE RIGHT SIDE and click to LEFT SIDE to extend.

Hello everyone. I have a problem/ question. I bought a laptop a while back. It was configured with two different disk created. Disk one is the os and recovery, and recovery system. While disk two has the large partition of new volume and another portion space that is recovery partition. my question is- How can I condense all of it onto just disk 1 without losing anything or deleting anything. This way I can have one solid drive and all the space I need.
