In this video I review the Tamron 35-150mm f2.0-2.8 lens and explain why after a summer of wedding photography and videography, i'm selling two of my Sony Gmaster lenses for this one lens.

Danny, I've this lens bolted to my A7RV all the time. I predominantly shoot live music, and it's unreal. In the pit, back stage, on stage and from the crowd, it does it all! Plus you get the bonus of clicking into crop mood and now you can reach 225mm. It's deadly sharp and with the high res images from the R5 cropping a shot is no issue.

Sometimes i use the magnet usb inserts from one of those magnetic charging USB cords. I just stick the head in like a dummy 🔌 plug, no need to use the cord, just the insert.

This is the combo I shoot with! Hits the majority of stuff I need it for

I just used this Tamron at a wedding in Cancun and a family trip to New York City on my a7iv. It is a fantastic lens and it was nice not having to switch lenses at the beach. I also have an 85mm and a 50mm but they never got out of my camera bag. I did have a 20mm f/1.8 on my a7c for dance floor pics. Thanks for the tip Taylor Jackson.

There was a recent firmware update release for the autofocus that I installed prior to the Cancun trip. I never had any issues prior to the firmware upgrade but I did notice a slight improvement.

It is a big lens but if you have a camera strap it is fine.

Having the option for the super 35 mode is the cherry on top.

The Samyang wasn’t out when I bought my Tamron and I am fine. The lens creep from the samyang would bug me since I do carry it on a camera strap.

Either way, it’s great to have options. Thanks for the video.

I'm using a Nikon Z9 I was so excited to see that they came out with a Z mount I bought one yesterday. It arrived tomorrow.

Makes me thing that they should do this will all zooms. Without being restricted for example maybe the 16-35mm f/2.8 could be f2-f2.8. I would definitely prefer that!

Actually i did the same after the Tamron 35-150mm came to the Nikon Z family - i tested the Tamron for wedding photography and decided to sell my 24-70mm 2.8 Z and 70-200 mm 2.8 Z lenses. I keep the 14-30mm 4 Z for the very wide shots and the 35mm and 85mm primes as backup. Tamron has made my life easier... Great lens and thanks for the review.

They said that the type c port on the side of the lens is waterproof just like on the bottom of your cell phone and it's nothing to worry about.

It's so funny everyone complains about how heavy it is and it's amusing because many of us used to shoot 70 to 200 2.8 lenses which are probably heavier and none of us ever complained. In fact 70 to 200 2.8 lenses used to be the industry standard.

My 24-70gm MKII and 70-200 GM MKII are my least used lenses, so like you I am thinking of selling both and getting this lens. I'm also getting an A1 which in crop mode will give me 21MP 127mm using my 85mm f1.4. So I think I will use the 70-200 even less. I currently carry 5 lenses to a wedding 16-35GM 35GM 24-70GM 85 sigma and 70-200 GM and this could reduce it to 4.

It looks sweet - great range I love my my RF 24 to 70 f2.8 but having that extra reach would be cool !

I love this lens, sold my 70-200 for it! Still have a 35/85 1.4 for lowlight. For the wedding photo examples, are you using any mist filter?

I also sold my tamron 20 40 and 70 180 with this one and keep the 50mm

I've been using this lens essentially since it came out, and its virtually the only lens I use for weddings.

Impressive lens but too bulky for me. I hope they will some day release a VXD version of the 28-200.

I bought the Samyang 35-150, and ultimately returned it in favor of the Tamron. My copy of the Samyang was noticeably soft beyond 110mm or so. From what I've read, that is a thing others have experienced as well. Supposedly there are good copies out there that are sharp throughout the focal range. For me though, I didn't want to risk getting another soft copy. My other problem with the Samyang was the lens creep. This is another thing that's been documented by others, and it's not a huge deal, but it is rather annoying for the lens to extend itself as you carry it around. So for those 2 reasons, I decided the build quality of the Tamron and the better warranty were worth the extra expense.

After using both lenses with my A7RV, I do prefer the handling of the Tamron. I think the Tamron is actually slightly heavier, but the lens barrel is skinnier than the Samyang, so it feels less....imposing. Anyway, thanks again for a great video!

I’ve been using this lens since it came out as well. It’s the main reason I switched back to Sony! It’s the versatility king!

Did you actually get the 35-150? I used to own the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and Tamron 70-180 f2.8, but I sold them a few weeks ago and recently got this 35-150 to test it out. I am still debating if I wanna stick with this or get the 70-200 GM II. 3 main reasons: OSS, Internal zoom, Better autofocus. I am mainly a video shooter... What did you end up doing?
