OnePlus 8T Review: What Happened To NEVER SETTLE?

This is the OnePlus 8T 5G, and notice there's no Pro in the name. It's not intended to replace the OnePlus 8 Pro, and oddly, it's not even meant to replace the OnePlus 8. It's a very interesting middle child that stands in between and blends some things we liked from the Pro, and that we wished we got from the 8.

The problem is when the strategy changes. This is not like the more affordable OnePlus 7T that disrupted the fall of 2019. Actually, it's the complete opposite, being more expensive and actually dated in certain ways. I know, this is not what you were expecting to hear about a OnePlus device, and here's the thing, neither was I. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive in to our full review sponsored by Private Internet Access. It has a cheaper version in Europe ( the 8gb ram version), which costs a little under Pixel 5, i believe, which is why is not that bad of a deal in the region, unlike in US where it comes only in the more expensive 12gb version.

I have the OnePlus 7 Pro. This is the first phone I've had and have kept since launch. I used to juggle phones because I liked trying samsung or apple or even LG or whatever else was new. But since getting this phone, I legit haven't looked at any other device. Sure. I want wireless charging. And yes...I really want a display with no curves. Yet for some reason I still have this phone and love to use it. The software is what has me loving this device and as someone who doesn't use the cameras, more so the front, this has been my favorite phone of all time. I would upgrade to another oneplus phone but I just haven't seen the need to yet. Maybe by the 9 they'll have the full package but for now I'm happy with this phone. Don't really see a need to upgrade yet.

For 600 EUR it's an amazing phone. The best you get for that money, really. 👌🏻

I'd say that the attractiveness of this phone is directly related to the market. Here it's launching cheaper than the 8 at around $650, slightly cheaper than the exynos s20 fe. The 4a is barely distributed and is extremely overpriced. My alternative would be xiaomi or huawei, but from my experience the os are just bad.

You know, I'm fine with my OP6 being my last OnePlus device. They've become the entity they were once fighting against.

In Mainland China the price of 8T (TAX INCLUDED) is $510(3399CNY) FOR 128GB, cheaper than the 8, which is $600 at launch, and is still more expensive than the 8t from third party sale.

I have the 8t and so far it's been great!

I got rid of my 7t for the 8t because I needed more storage 128gb vs 256gb. My 7t was an excellent phone but I do enjoy having official ip68 rating (T-Mobile version), way faster charging speeds and longer lasting battery life.

I've had this phone for 2 months already and I freken love it. I dumped samsung note 20 ultra for this phone. What this dude said about the screen quality and sound is no joke. Both are absolutely amazing. Performance is fast and that It's insanely fast! Ever since I got this phone a lot of my coworkers ask me if they can use my "supercharger". They are crazy about how fast my charger juices up their phone and they completely lose it when they see how fast it charges my phone. Best thing about this phone is that I got it for 280 bucks brand new from T-Mobile. How? Promo where you can trade in another phone and get the 8t for free. I simply purchased a s9 from Amazon and took it straight to a tmobile store.

I have the oneplus 8T but it only makes sense to buy in Asia where I live where it's priced roughly at $580.

Great review, but I must take exception with one feature your sponsor spot. PIA does NOT unblock netflix. In fact it's notoriously bad at doing that.

Most reviewers compare it with 8 i get it that's how OnePlus been launching phones since 8t, however its good for those jumping from a phone that has 835 or 845. Also in India OnePlus 8t base variant cuts samsung fe by 7000 rs or 100$, & no pixel 5 here so 8t here is definitely a better option then the competition

I'm hoping to get this phone. I don't really care about camera performance on a phone. When I look at the processor, ram, huge storage, and great screen, this phone has everything I want.

Oneplus dropped the ball with this phone... It's really disappointing.

I got the 8GB/128GB 8T here in the UK over the 6GB/128GB S20 FE which is about £50 more expensive.

IP68 would have been nice. I'm not really bothered about wireless charging and 65W charging plus the battery life has been a game changer for me.

The camera isn't on the Pixel/Galaxy/iPhone level, but coming from an OP5 it's more than fine and I'm pretty happy with the majority of pictures I've taken so far.

In terms of value, I think reviewers need to differentiate between the various markets the phone is sold in.
