Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 Drop Test

Samsung's new Galaxy S flagship phone, dubbed the Galaxy S IV, came out to the public this week with a very similar design to that of the Galaxy S III. The only major design tweaks that Samsung made were more squared off edges, and of course that beautiful 5-inch 1080p screen. Last September when the Galaxy S III was dropped against the iPhone 5, it was a complete wash in the iPhone 5's favor. 7 months after the iPhone 5's launch, lets see if Samsung stepped up their game in building a more durable phone.

Thanks for watching and as always, make sure to stay tuned to TechSmartt for more Galaxy goodness.

Notes from the creator:

Alright, to begin, when I produced this video I did it without a bias in mind. I am fairly experienced user with iOS and Android. I own multiple devices of both, and know how to use each one fairly well; even beyond just the stock experience. I do not personally rank either phone or operating system over the other. They both have their positives to them, but they also both have their negatives as well. The point of this video was not to portray an opinion of which phone I enjoy more, or which device I believe is better. The point of this video was to simply show the physical strength of each device and how it holds up to external abuse. I also do not state that because one phone withstood more damage that it makes it an all-around better device, so please do not put words in my mouth saying I do.

As for the drops, each one was trying to be life like as possible; however, I have no control of gravity and the laws of physics so I cannot plan exactly how the phone will make contact with the ground. I can attest though the the iPhone did land straight on the front glass during the first 10 foot drop, even though that was not initially intended. So, yes, each phone did land directly on the screen from 10 feet up.

The entire premises of this video is to inform (YOU) the consumer simply which phone can withstand drops, and not much else. You can then make your own decision on which phone you wish to favor and/or buy from there.

Also, for some reason a lot of people think I have a screen shield of some sort on the iPhone 5, I can promise you, I do not. I never had and never will use one. I like to keep my iPhone bare naked and that is screen included. Must have just been the way the light was hitting it at that time of day.

We appreciate your listening and hope you are able to read this before commenting.

I don't understand why iPhone users are proud of this... All it proves is that Apple knows their users are a bunch of klutzy fools, and that they need a tougher phone :P

actually it depends on what angle you drop, if you drop your phone vertically the chances of crackinf is much bigger

this is obviously for the iphone. other drop tests show much more similarities in the damage, the screens go barely touched at 7 feet.

The galaxy landed in its corner while the iphone landed flat, thats why the screen cracked. The structure of the phone was weakened and gave out. The iphone landed flat so it didn't crack. But the iphone is stronger than before, it would always break until they finally made it strong. If thr iphone landed on its corner and bounce luke the galaxy did, it would have been more damaged

Samsung s4 only broke because it's Skinner, its plastic and has wayyy more sensitive screen than the iphone 5. but this is only testing for has a better screen. Samsung s4 is still a much much better phone in so many ways.

I like both phones but I have an iPhone 5 and I think it looks better and is very light. It ain't about the size though. It's about the programs and how the phone works
