Could Donald Trump Make Greenland The 51st State?

It is officially official, everyone. As of January 20, 2025, Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

All of a sudden, though, Trump is really into the idea of expanding the United States. To be more specific, Trump seems keen on making Greenland the 51st state of the country.

That’s not all, though. In the past few weeks, Trump has not only made comments about making Greenland a state, but has also claimed he will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, attempt to take back the Panama Canal, and has even said he wants Canada to join the United States as well.

So where is all of this coming from? Is any of this a legitimate possibility? What could the possible impacts of American expansion in the modern era be? In today’s video, I’m going to do my best to answer all of these questions. But first, we need to take a couple of minutes to review Trump’s claims.

Thank you so much for watching!

Wow, Stickman no longer suffers from complete paralysis and can move his arms! It only took over a year for him to do that!

Thanks so much for watching, everyone. Appreciate you all. Looking forward to hopefully seeing you next time for another video :)

The fact that this is being talked about more seriously than Puerto Rico becoming a state is sad tbh.

This has to be one of the most Putin like moves Trump is trying to make. Like he realized "Wait I can do that?"

Manifest Destiny coming back was not on my 2025 bingo card

Seriously though wth? There's no good reason to forcefully take over other territories

If he wants to make more states, maybe he should focus on territories that actually want to become states, like Puerto Rico

He's not who I voted for but at this point I can only hope most of the stuff he's saying about canada, greenland, and our other allies is unserious and he actually has a plan for the country. If its not we're certainly in for an interesting 4 years lol

Denmark selling the land for less money that a treaty of exclusive mining rights is a wet dream.

Just the oil is Greenland is around 30B barrels and that's not counting the iron, gold... ores, and the rare earths.

Anything below 1 trillion usd would be comically cheap

He would rather take Greenland and rename the Gulf of Mexico than make a good healthcare system or work to lower cost of living

I don't see the acquisition of Canada as realistic. Much higher >p for Greenland.

He wouldn't make them "states". He would make them territories without voting rights, like Puerto Rico. Of course, this could only be accomplished through conquest and war that would likely rival Russo-Ukrainian war in brutality. And could result in war with European powers, which combined have much bigger mobilization and industrial potential than the United States if they were to go into war economy mode.
I don't know what he's thinking, or if he's thinking at all (unlikely)

i like the content of your video but the entrance/exit transitions for text and images are a bit jarring / distracting / long to me personally. nonetheless, good video.

A man gesturing towards imperialist expansion is certainly not concerned about its democratic consequences. Even if it's the language he uses, these potential "states" would likely, in my opinion, have the same level of sovereignty as puerto Rico. US territories with no voice

Yeah but if America starts expanding illegally that means sanctions will crush the economy then the big companies that rely on imports can move to London and the Uk can have an economy again

also, isnt the king of england still technically in charge of canada? would they have to clear a potential sale through him?

Considering a 50, 000 people population they really can’t become a state. They’re just too small most likely will become an American territory like Guam.
