Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss will face each other in the run-off to be Conservative party leader, and therefore UK prime minister, as decided by party members.

Penny Mordaunt was knocked out of the running in the latest round of voting.

The two remaining candidates will take part in hustings around the country and head-to-head debates, before the winner is announced on 5 September after a postal ballot, completed by 160,000 Tory party members.

Now we just need Jonathan Pie's journalistic take on the matters at hand.

I want Rowan Atkinson to become the prime minister. Not these two puppets.

I am American. I believe Rishi Sunak will be the best deserving candidate for PM's role to help UK's struggling economy. He is finance minister and has studied Economics and Business management and was Fulbright scholar.

How soon will either of them be pressured to resign? British politics seems to be pretty flimsy.

Doesn't matter who they put in charge! It's all the same as long as the higher ups are still there.

What the BBC needs to do is have a week long, in depth, debate on what is actually happening with the economy . Not only nationally but internationally. It should invite economists, politicians, unions and ordinary people from various strata of society to give an honest view of how it affects business and people lives. This is what the BBC was set up for. To inform us

This is the “clean break” from Boris Johnson that Tories claimed they wanted? Apologists for Boris?

To all the people from my country India. Sunak is not an Indian. He is British . Stop celebrating. If he becomes PM he will not be much different than previous British PM's. You r celebrating as if he will also become the PM of India. We shud care what happens in our home. Stop commenting here like an idiot.

Going from Boris to one of these two is like Man Utd subbing off Maguire and bringing on Jones.

Edit: no idea what this has to do with India
