The Polar Vortex Is Literally Splitting In Two....

The Polar Vortex is splitting in two and will cause multiple snow and ice storms through February. An ice storm is expected from Ohio through Pennsylvania while the Northeast will likely be crushed with snow over the coming weeks. The Polar Vortex will help send an Arctic blast to the northern tier of the country while the South basks in record warmth.

Right around the 13:30 mark, there is a dark pink streak stretching Kansas up through Des Moines. Does that mean the six storms leading up to that will drop around 10” of cumulative snow? The video sped up each time the storms crossed the Midwest in this area and it was difficult to see which storms dropped what, as far as snow. Then, the big pink streak at 13:30 showed up…(Des Moines only saw a couple inches of snow in early December 2024. It’s been all rain, ever since.)

Have been watching your channel for over a year and still look forward to new videos!

Hi Jonathan, I’m from New Jersey and I appreciate you take it much further than most. I found the polar vortex separating in two with your thumbnail image very intriguing . Please keep up the great work and keep deep diving further than everyone else. You remind me of Joe Bastardi, love him or hate him, because he followed the science in front of him with common sense and not too many models as it pertained to the past.

On the other hand, for the future, it’s good to have as many plausible outcomes as possible presented to the public, always backed with science, not bias.

So as a first time watcher, I’ll subscribe. Stay grounded, pun intended lol, and you could really evolve into a bigger, badder, more scientifically grounded, with generationally better instrumentation and data type of guy that could help our entire country on a national level.

I wish you the best! KEEP WORKING HARD!… and don’t get caught up in the minutia of parties, dinners, etc., unless absolutely necessary, but then leave. I grew up around people that prey on you in such situations in NYC. My Father is a true man of Integrity… be the sane, my friend!

God bless!!! 🙏👊

This happened a few years ago, also. See Dr. Jennifer Francis work on Arctic Amplification and the jet stream. The SST (sudden stratospheric warming) dropped in like an axe and split it in two. With excess stored heat bleeding off the oceans now, I have a theory that is where the heat is coming from.

I never heard that the stratospheric polar vortex causes cold air at the surface to spill away from the arctic. I think that the cold air is affect by the tropospheric polar jet stream and surface fronts to a much greater extent than what's going on in the stratosphere.

Hi Johnathan, I recently watched a snow squall blow through Burlington Vt. What conditions cause a squall?

Here in New York City, I have a question which I don't see any of the models even showing where is the blocking?

Seems like everything is going to be zonal west to east, and but if the warm air is going to override we're looking at a lot of ice almost everywhere or snow to ice to rain.. I mean even in New York City.

Maybe the models are not showing where the high pressure is but we have to get the cold air from somewhere, no mention of a storm either reforming off the coast or riding up the coast so it will be very interesting to see where the boundary is between rain and snow have a feeling it's going to be a fine line for New York City and maybe even Boston too.

Doesn't look like to be any Blockbuster storms just accumulating storms which is fine but might have some unhappy people thinking it's going to be a winter wonderland when there is a high chance for bust depending on how far the pole of vortex is able to dip.

As a person who loves snow obviously I'm rooting for that pattern but doesn't seem like that is the pattern more worried about the ice as I don't see any highs blocking at least they weren't shown.

Still lots of time to iron things out!
