Yesterday I discovered that OpenAI is lying about the GPT-4 message cap, which is the main reason people, including myself, pay for ChatGPT Plus.

I just signed up for the teams one. Yes there is a monthly option but it increases to $30 per month. Since you need to pay for 2 it's $60 and with tax it gets to $72. When you migrate you can choose that all your old chats go with you and your previous Plus subscription cancelled. It shows that each of the memeber of the team has 100 messages per 3 hours.

Edit: I'm suspecting that in fact the two members in the team will share the 100 messages.
I don't know for sure since I haven't added another user. But the wording says that all users would share the workspace.

Maybe the idea is that if one wants more messages on just keeps paying for an extra "team member"

it's like the web hosting services, they make promises about the space, the bandwith etc but if you try to make use of the maximum allowed you get slapped by the admin because the promise is made knowing that most users will NOT need the max capacity. this abusive practice is called overselling.

I just had these issues after it was hallucinating a whole bunch and making stuff up. I wanted it to align to descriptors in two documents. It just made stuff up, and when I question it, it didn't regenerate the response, it simple fixed the errors I point out. I get the feeling that the process is not consistent, and the quality of the the response varies massively. It's starting to suck bad.

I use Bing/Copilot or the GPT 3.5 turbo model for less important stuff, so that I rarely hit the the message cap.

Damn, good video and good to know! I unsubbed in january cause I was noticing it giving bad results and it being generally slow but the ~20 message cap thing must be the icing on the cake.

Not to mention that they shouldnt have changed the message cap from 50 to 40 to users who were already paying users at the time. Its un-ethical. "Senior" users should continue to get the same conditions that they subscribed for.

Yes, I consistently run into that 20 post limit, and what's more, the constant generation failures also count as a full post, and it also goes into the list of requests that are deducted from the limit. Deception of pure water!

I just assumed your message and GPT’s response each count as a message. Hence 20 of your messages would be 40 messages

You seem to complaining a lot about the low cap, which is fair, it is low and the monthly subscription price probably doesn't justify it. If this is a real issue for you, get an API key and plug it into a third party chat interface, you won't be limited and it usually ends up being cheaper. You will be charged based only on total tokens in and out.

As someone who play around with the API, I reckon that their '40 message' cap is just an estimation for how many tokens are being used per message. So longer prompts and longer responses(that you have no control over) will use more tokens.

Yes it sucks if u get cut off in midst of work, but 8x50 = 400 per day, u don't compare correctly I think.

Yeah they just coded so it counted the messages in the chat, which also counts the bot responses. They didn't code to check exactly what's the amount of user messages there is

OpenAI will keep decreasing capacity for a Plus user and will completely change the model to pay by tokens. Remember my words...

I was wondering if they might not be doing something based on total tokens generated - or something like Midjourney's "Total GPU hours used".

But yes, I've seen it die pretty fast.
