Thyroid Nodule Treatment (Natural & Medical Treatments nodules)

Thyroid nodule treatment outline including natural treatments for thyroid nodules and medical treatments for thyroid nodules. Find out which type of treatment you should use for your thyroid nodules.

Do you have thyroid nodules? If so, you have probably wondered, at least at some point, how to treat or reduce the size of those nodules.

And that's exactly what we are going to be talking about today. Natural treatments for thyroid nodules and just thyroid nodule treatment in general. We will include some natural therapies as well as some medical therapies because they may be necessary for some people.

But first, why should you care about thyroid nodules? The main concern is not the nodule itself but what the nodule can turn into. And, of course, I'm talking about thyroid cancer.

All thyroid nodules have a small risk of being cancerous or turning into cancer at some point in the future. Because of this, it behooves you as the patient to try and minimize this risk as MUCH as possible.

The good news is that MOST thyroid nodules are benign and NOT cancerous (about 95%) but you should still take care to minimize your risk of thyroid cancer.

So how do you treat thyroid nodules? Here are 6 steps you would want to consider:

#1. TSH management.

TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone and it does exactly as it sounds. It stimulates the thyroid gland. This is a HUGE problem for thyroid nodules, though, because you really don't want to stimulate them. If you do, then you are stimulating them to grow (which is obviously bad).

So a high TSH level is not ideal if you have thyroid nodules and is something that should be addressed.

You can treat thyroid nodules with thyroid medication and other therapies. NDT is particularly effective at reducing the TSH.

#2. Iodine management.

Both high iodine and low iodine can trigger the growth of thyroid nodules. Because of this, you need to take great care of your iodine intake if you have a thyroid nodule.

The recommended dose of iodine daily is somewhere between 100mcg and 12mg per day. Play around with the dose to find out what works for you.

#3. Autoimmune management.

We also know that autoimmune disease increases inflammation which damages the thyroid gland and increases your risk of thyroid nodules.

MOST people with hypothyroidism have this issue which makes it a big concern for anyone with that condition. Treating your inflammation and balancing your immune system is critical.

#4. Blood sugar and insulin resistance management.

#5. Avoid radiation exposure.

#6. Consume vegetables and other produce.

I have Hashimoto’s and also have nodules. The left lobe is considered to be a goiter (and nodular) and the right lobe isn’t as bad. My antibodies are in the 30s and my TSH is 1.4. My iodine was within normal range. My RT3 is always high/high normal. My endocrinologist biopsied my left lobe 4-5 years ago (benign) and was just re-biopsied again (benign). He insists that I have my entire thyroid removed as he feels like it will only cause me problems with swallowing and breathing but that was 4 years ago and my nodules are actually a tad smaller with the help of working closely with my functional medicine dr. and I have no issues with swallowing or breathing. I have fought like hell to keep my thyroid and I will use these tips to try and shrink it further. Good luck to all battling this horrible condition.

I have a 2cm nodule, getting it biopsied soon. I apparently have severe hypothyroidism but I don’t really have the symptoms, such as fatigue, hair falling out, etc.

I am doing whatever I can to treat this naturally without going on meds for the rest of my life.

I thought I was a healthy 41 year old who ate decent and worked out several times a week. I’ve just been told by my doc that I have thyroid nodules on both sides with more nodules on the right side. I have a needle biopsy scheduled next week. This thing has affected by breathing and my voice is very hoarse. It’s been hard to swallow and I constantly have to clear my throat. I don’t have the best doc but I am currently searching for a functional medicine doc near me, 🙏🏽

Thank you Dr Childs for all the videos! unfortunately I had a thyroidectomy years ago, I regret very much that I consented to the surgery. I had hashimoto diagnosed ten years earlier, the left lobe was atrophied and the right thyroid lobe with several nodules one 5cm in diameter. I regret bc I lived better being hyper although I had symptoms of hair loss and tachicardia. Since that bigger nodule was considered cancerous I agreed to the thyroidectomy, glad the surgeon left in place the little parathyroid glands. After surgery I gained more than 20 pounds weight which I don’t know how to reduce; was on levo (T4) 125mcg during all the years until I started adding T3 (on self medication bc no doctor wanted to prescribe T3: “blood tests are normal”, they said. I suffered of severe fatigue, it felt like dragging my own cadaver from one room to another, bad gastrointestinal functions, brain fog, very low iron, very low D3 and other bad symptoms. Well since I take T3 I have more energy and my brain is “clear” again, but still with unpleasant stomach issues and low vitamins.

I was scanned and found to have thyroid nodules. Waiting for the biopsy. Experiencing pain on the left side of my neck at the moment. I also experienced eczema from high blood sugar. Had been avoiding sugar but finally had a slightly green banana last night. I am 70.

Can radio frequency ablation (RFA( helps in shrinking the size of nodules? What are it's pros and cons? Is it really effective in terms of recurrence? Thanks.

I have Hashimotos and loads of nodules. My doc said she just wanted to do another ultrasound in a year. She never mentioned there were things I could do to help get rid of them. I take NP thyroid 90mg and she has been over treating me. So now my labs look like I have hyperthyroidism but she says she wants me to be over treated because when I wasn't over treated I didn't feel well. My hair is so thin and losing weight feels impossible. So glad to have found this channel!

Hi, Doctor. I have a very hard lump in my front right side neck. Could it be goiter? Thanks for your suggestion to eat more produce. I will do it. I probably have eaten too much iodine since I love salty food. What I notice, when I eat too much salty food, the jaws areas become swollen but aren't hurt.

Yup. I have nodules. Had "hot" nodules resulting in Hyperthyroidism. It was bad by the time I finally got diagnosed. I had radiation ablation. I still have a goiter it is full of fluid. Had it biopsied and drained years ago, but of course it right away refilled with fluid. I've never taken iodine. Could this help reduce the size of my goiter? Going to an endo is not an option as I don't have health insurance. Thank you, Dr. Westin.

Hi doctor I have 3 nodules diagnosed 2 years ago. They biopsied them and they were all benign. My bloodwork came back normal no Hashimoto no hypo or hyper thyroidism so what then causes nodules if all my tests are normal?

Hello Doc, just few days before I have been diagnosed with a heterogeneously hypoechoic ill defined solid cystic nodule with few calcifications on the right lobe with the measurement of 2.9x1.2x1.3 cm. TSH is 2.1 and T4 is 6.1 and my total cholesterol being 237. Kindly advise me as to whether undergo FNAC. If so, am more nervous to know the result. Please help me to understand the natural ways to overcome this problem. Thanks a many in advance.
