Icelandair has a long history of using narrowbodies on long routes; its the core operating model for the airline! As we previously covered on this channel, the carrier’s Airbus A321XLRs will replace its aging Boeing 757s. Speaking at Routes Europe in Istanbul, the carrier's Head of Revenue Management and Pricing, Matthías Sveinbjörnsson, who is also an Icelandair 757/767 pilot, said that the XLR "can do more" than the 757. Let’s unpack this statement in today’s video…

They must duplicate that stunning Aurora and Glacier liveries onto the A321XLRs. Best liveries in aviation

Maybe Easyjet could start buying these and running some transatlantic routes.
Thats if they are prepared to stand in the queue and wait for the delivery.

Imagine an A321XLR flies 8, 700 km at 850km/h, that’s like about an 11 hour flight nonstop !!

Forget about Mexico City, there's no way any A321 (let alone the XLR) can takeoff from that airport elevation with enough fuel to reach Keflavik

They should have gone with the A320NEO over the MAX 8 and 9 to further simplify things. I want to know how they will eventually replace their 767-300ER's, whether it is the 787 or A330NEO they go with.

after delta most aircrafts, Transavia 737 replace by A320 family it's the moment for icelandair to change their aircraft manufacturer from boeing to Airbus

If the A321-XLR can do more, then why wasn't a freighter version planned yet?? The 757 was already a robust, and capable airplane of both versions.

4, 000 nm on a narrow body? So much for comfort. I did it on a LAX-AKL round trip on a 787, and it was tight to my taste. But I guess after enjoying many years crossing the Pacific and Atlantic on wide bodies, I would have ot get used to, as it is the unfortunate future.
