Earlier this month, Icelandair announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for 25 A321XLRs. This is a significant update from the Icelandic flag carrier, which had been mulling over new options for its fleet for several years. For most of its recent history, the airline has been a mainly Boeing operator. Let’s look at this development in today’s video!

The A321XLR is a logical next step for Icelandair considering that they didn't have any other options though I would still like to see them replace their 767s with the 787-8.

I think it's the correct choice. Because, for comparison, Aer Lingus used to fly the Shannon - Boston route with a 757. A work colleague of mine has booked a flight on that route for August and, at the moment at least, it shows that he'll be on an A321.

Here’s hoping they paint the aurora livery and glacier livery on their A321XLR. The best liveries ever!

The 757 is one of my favourite aircraft and seeing Boeing not updating and upgrading it is really sad 😢

Sadly the XLR still can't do all what the 757 can do but at least it'll be fuel efficient. Boeing dropped the ball

I am an absolute Airbus fanatic but I think the Boeing 757 was an absolute marvel. What an increadable aircraft. This aircraft could have been a huge competitor to Airbus had Boeing decided to rework wing and engine upgrades. I personally think Boeing is self destructing internally.

This is a decision borne out of necessity, and a good one for Icelandair. If Boeing builds a midsize aircraft later on, Icelandair will sign up.

It will be weird seeing Icelandair's flying pencils replaced. Thankful had an opportunity to fly on two of them.

Love the A320 family with the spacious cabin and great comfort usually

IMO Boeing is really dropping the ball on the NMA project. There is a lot of potential instead twirling their thumbs with the 737 and 777 problems

Boeing 737 Max 8 and Airbus A321XLR.. Nice Combination. I would like to see 787-8 to replace 767-300ER.

Flying from Seattle to Reykjavik on a 737 MAX? That's a torture I would avoid at all cost.

That’s like replacing a Vette with a Avalon!
