Cersei seriously messed up Lancel. He was a young relative and she should have protected him. She should have made Robert treat him better and been more of a mother as he was away from home. Instead she seduced him, made him get her husband drunk while boar hunting (which he blames himself for). She made him spy for her and put him in the way of Tyrion, opening him up to being blackmailed. In the battle of the Blackwater, Lancel was wounded. He came to Cersei telling her not to take Joffrey from the Wall, which was good advice. Angry, Cersei hit him in his wound, causing it to bleed uncontrollably and Lancel nearly died. The septon who saved him also convinced him that he was being punished for his sins and so he joined eventually the Faith militant trying to find redemption.

In the books Kevan tried to get Lancel back getting him land, manor, and a frisky wife. But Lancel walked out on all of it overwhelmed by his need to redeem his sins.

This was also a *George* mistake when he wrote this dialogue. Lancel is Cersei's COUSIN, not her nephew, not likely a mistake that Kevan would make.
