Richard Dawkins ISN'T a skeptic on trans rights (and that's a problem)

Richard Dawkins is going around making all the same style arguments that creationists do. More skeptics should be calling him out.

Congnitive dissonance is a crazy thing. Richard admits to not knowing enough about dimorphism so avoids having a specific view on brains, yet is somehow an expert on peoples sex or gender?

Honestly, maybe zoology wasn't a well enough paying career, so he decided to just speak and whatever subject pays the most at a given time 🤷

As a scientist, all scientists have prejudices and none are completely logical just like all humans. Dawkins ego however won't let him be wrong on anything. He may be an atheist but he seems to act like god from time to time.

the attack helicopter joke is the same thing as the MAP/beastiality comparison to gay people. "They can say they identify as a woman so why can't someone else say they identify as an attack helicopter?"/"They can say that same sex attraction is legitimate so why can't someone else say attraction to minors/animals is legitimate?"

In 1976, I was 10 going on 11. Richard Carlson —yep, his dad- outed Renee Richards as having transitioned. Richards was a professional tennis player.

This was all over the news. Except for her and Wendy Carlos, of Switched on Bach fame, I didn’t know of anyone trans. Richards, however, was high profile enough that a 10 year old in Kansas City knew about her from TV news. Do not try to tell me it was not a thing. I was fairly certain, as a kid, that, of this famous person found a doctor to do this surgery, they were not the only person.

I’m sorry. I’ve been very active in the comments. This kind of ignorance astounds me endlessly. It gives me big feelings. Not really sorry

I'm getting a Master's degree in evolutionary biology and I know next to nothing about human sex. If I had to bet on it, I'd wager Dawkins knows as much if not less than I do, if only because he was studying in the 60s-70s when we didn't know as much. Sometimes you won't know something, and the correct response when someone asks about that thing is "I don't know", not to confidently assert stuff you've just made up. He's doing exactly the same thing creationists do.

i lost my respect for Dawkins, when during a conversation he stated, ^gender is binary, except the ones that are not^ as a biologist isnt the 1% the ones that disprove the whole All cats are black, apart the ones that are not...

At best, Richard Dawkins has *partly* gone through the process on religion. He's shed his religious dogmas, if he was raised with any (do we actually know he wasn't raised atheist, or otherwise not actively led into a religion?), but he's still down bad with the "being right is the most important thing and I'm very superior to people who think differently from me" dogma

Even as I get older I still run into situations where people I used to respect turn out to be assholes and it is super depressing. 😒 Can't even wrap my head around why he would make a thing out of this. People like him helped lead me to my current perspective on morality, and then I see this.
