The first thing we go over in this video are the latest recommended sodium intakes for people with chronic kidney disease which are less than 2300 mg of sodium per day and as low as 1500 mg could be more beneficial for kidney patients.

Salt is very prevalent in the American diet, which can make it extremely hard to limit sodium intake over the course of a day. Fast food and prepared foods are loaded with excess sodium. The average American consumes 3,400 mg of sodium a day. This is way over the recommended daily allowance for people on dialysis or living with CKD which is no more than 2300 per day.

Dietary choices need to be made including not reaching for the salt shaker, looking at the labels of foods before buying them and opting for more fruits and vegetables in the diet. Another method to limit sodium is to cook with herbs and spices for savory flavor instead of salt. Some good herbs to use instead of salt include smoked paprika, chili powder, lemon zest, and dried oregano.

The fact is that the less salt you use, the less you will crave. Some people don’t even miss it after a while—or they notice many prepared or restaurant dishes are too salty to enjoy, and actually care for less salt. Try limiting salt in your diet, and you might crave it less. When it comes to ingredients labeled as salt alternatives, be mindful that they may contain excess potassium. Classic salt substitutes simply switch out sodium for another mineral, potassium which you may need to limit as part of your kidney friendly diet. To your best kidney health everyone.

My opinion, those studies still work for big pharma and to me that’s still to high. In. My common sense opinion, I would say if you have kidney issues I would do less then 100g or let the 50g a day. That means cook at home
