It makes sense because we know the I pronounces the sound e and I it is taught in school. It doesn’t look like an e and it should sound like I but it does because that is the letter it is either pronounced e or I for the letter I

Same with zing it is pronounced e and it is a I you’re not saying zing with the I as it looks. But you of course know there’s different ways to say I. Because you would not be able to say them. And if you don’t know well you should have gone to school.
