So, what is the most unhealthy diet in the world? It's hospital food. A hospital is a place where you go to heal and recover, but I believe it's the worst place to go to recover.

Hospital meals are constructed with dietary concerns in mind. But, the problem is that whoever created these meal plans is operating off of false information.

Hospitals contract out meals with companies who specialize in preparing institutional food, like the food they serve in prisons, school systems, and government agencies. These foods are meant for high volume and low cost. They're also typically pre-packaged and pre-cooked.

I believe hospital foods are definitely not recovery foods. They're inflammatory foods. Fasting or bringing your own food if you're in the hospital may be the best way to go.

The macros of typical hospital foods:
• Protein: 10-35%
• Carbs: 45-65%
• Fat: 30% or less (saturated fat: 10% or less)

Hospitals serve:
• Foods that have no trans fat
• Low sodium foods
• 100% fruit juice
• 1% non-fat dairy
• Milk substitutes (like soy)
• Yogurt (less than 30g of sugar per 8oz.)
• Low sodium cheese
• Whole wheat and whole-grain foods
• Dinner rolls, muffins, bagels, tortillas (must contain less than 290mg of sodium)
• Cereal (must contain less than 215mg of sodium)
• Dried cranberries and raisins (these are not included in the total sugar amount)
• Canned beef and vegetables (must contain less than 290mg of sodium)
• Frozen French toast (must contain less than 480mg of sodium)
• Snacks (should be added to help curve hunger)
• At least five servings of vegetables per week

My sister had a stroke and she was sent to a world renowned hospital in Michigan. I was surprised when I got to hospital and after her first surgery the nurse said she was going to order my sister some jello. I told her no way. The nurse said “we have to get her something on her stomach.” I responded “no sugar for my sister”. The nurse finally said, “OK then, I order some broth with bits of veggies.” I said “Yes.” I knew then the food was going to be a problem. So I made sure my sister had organic eggs, grass-fed beef and lamb, low amounts of organic fruit, avocados, a little bit of crushed lentil soup and sweet potatoes, and oysters mostly everyday for 6 weeks. I think she healed a lot quicker because of the food and outside magnesium and vitamin C I was allowed to give her. Dr. Berg, you have influenced me is so many ways. Thank you!

This is totally true. Recently my diabetic 85 yr old father was in the hospital supposedly on a diet specialized for diabetics and it was loaded with sugar, carbs and crap. I questioned the nurse and she said it was no big deal they would just give him more insulin! I was not impressed.

Hospital food is part and parcel of an overall unhealthy healthcare system that keeps "customers" coming back. Thank you for getting this out

Last time I was in I refused to eat the rubbish they tried to feed me. Wasn’t allowed to be discharged until I ate so I had a damn good talk with the doctor…I won!

Doctors know drugs, not nutrition. They’re not taught nutrition at all. You have to be your own advocate for your health. Question your docs every move with your health.

So much truth in that! Last I was in the hospital, I remember thinking “This is THE most un-nutritional diet, ever, and it’s in the hospital?”

My Mom is in the hospital and we bring her all the meals. The food served is old and disgusting, full of sugar and colouring. My Mom is terminal with cancer in the oncology ward of the hospital and they give her high sugar foods. They don’t care about patients health. They have given my Mom only days to live, 😥 but we are there every day giving her good healthy organic food.

It's incredibly sad how much our institutions and our society as a whole are ignorant and/or corrupt...

Glad you addressed this because they feed diabetics high carbs and it makes no sense

No professional practising doctor from a hospital would talk about it,
Dr. Berg is an angel sent by God to save our health. We are grateful.

Hospitals are good at patching you up but the whole time you're in a doctor's care you are in grave Danger

Yes. This is 100% true. I was just in for panniculectomy surgery after losing about 300lbs naturally without gastric bypass, by quitting drinking after getting a cirrhosis diagnosis 3 years ago, and also by intermittent fasting. Was originally 540lbs and now around 250. The nurses and doctors in the hospital caring for me thought I was crazy that I wanted to fast, and when I ate, I had my wife sneak me in food that was actually nutritious. Hospital food is terrible.

Thank you, i'm actually at the hospital and they feed me 3 yogourt + orange juice per meal. I tell them that it's loaded with sugar and prefer to fast. Thanks to uber eats, i managed to get myslf a proper meal with seafood and vegetables 😁 living in 2021 has it's advantages 💪 Thank you Dr.

Had an operation last year and the food they served me was so bad. The most unhealthy rubbish imaginable. I asked for real food but was told "this is what the dietician approved". Meanwhile I was offered more unnecessary painkillers than I could count. Needless to say when the same institutions tell me to take covid seriously, it's an impossible task for me to believe them.

My sister is currently in the hospital having had surgery on her spin. They were serving her biscuits and gravy and barbecue chicken. Nasty stuff. She is diabetic too. Makes me mad.

This is a crazy world. Always thought the excuse 'to get your energy up' with 'jello' was nasty. How about bone broth, or anything of substance...but instead sugar. During a time when one is fragile, sugar is the last thing one should consume. Another fantastic video. Look forward to reading comments as they are informative too:)🍁

I couldn’t agree with you any better. Some even serve pizzas 🍕! Fruit juice from the paper package, potatoes. Bread etc. It’s incredible!

I hate hospitals, I had a horrifying experience with one and had no choice but to sue them. I won my lawsuit case and settled out of court so they know they would have lost if they took it to trial. I would explain what happened but it is way too long to explain and would take up the whole page. I couldn't even eat the food at all.

I was at Syosset Hospital for a week. I was in for a surprise. I didn’t feel like I was in a hospital, but it felt like a country club. I got over my food sensitivities while at the hospital. I am not scared of food anymore. Didn’t raise my blood sugar while I was there. I felt I was on vacation. The chef made me food that I could eat. He was willing to share the recipe with me. I was treated with dignity and I got over my food sensitivities.

Hospitals just want people to stay there for a while.
