I grew up watching the TOS on reruns in the late 1970s, the SNW version is the perfect reimagined Enterprise that Abrams failed to envision. As much as I liked the Kelvin Timeline Enterprise for being its own thing, it didn't completely capture the "essence" of the TOS and TOS refit version of the ship - not as much as the Enterprise from SNW does.

I'm actually amazed it took Star Trek this long to modernize the design of the original USS Enterprise in a way that doesn't completely betray its original appearance. The Kelvin TL Constitution while modernized did tend to be a lot more "curvy" in comparison to the original, whereas the SNW Constitution would to the uninitiated look like the original ship at first glance until they look at the details.

As a Gundam fan who has seen the original RX-78-2 undergo a ton of different redesigns to modernize it, I'm actually happy to see Trek finally acknowledge that particular ability to do so. Just wished they had that insight to do so when they were designing the NX-01, which while a fine ship in its own right looks way too advanced aesthetically to be a predecessor machine to the TOS Constitution (it's my exact same gripe with the Constitution III but in reverse: it looks way too retro to be a 'new' 25th Century ship).

I’ll always prefer the original, but the Strange New Worlds E holds up very well in a side by side.

I’m a fan of the original. For sure. However, the SNW E introduces a much more logical lineage for the TMP refit (which we all know needs absolutely zero modifications, it’s PERFECT). So it makes sense.

The 1966 original will always be the Original, but it hasn’t aged well at all compared to the refit. SNW is a great modern rendition, you can see it being functionally real

I honestly still think you can make it close to the original while making it look modernized, kind of what Ressurected Starships did. Making the pylons straight anf without the annoying potato peeler holes, having the registry sprawled across like in TOS, and shortening the weird "runaway" from the shuttlebay are possible the only changes to do while keeping the details and textures of SNW

Insert TOS theme and voila! Perfecto. :D

My favorite addition is the Excelsior-style ridge around the impulse engines

They're both beautiful, IDC what anyone else says. I do like that on the revision, you can see its NX-class lineage.

The size shown here would make it so it makes more sense as to how they look different between TOS & SNW & would also keep within the sizes originally given in both TOS & DIS when the Ent makes her first appearance as this shows them at a similar size (DISCO in Brother listed the measurements as the same as the TOS ones) so the look can simply be explained as a minor makeover in a refit, however that's now not the case in actuality, the Original Connie (TOS) is 288.6m long, 127.1m wide and 72.6m tall - as also shown in DISCO, however the SNW Ent Dedication plaque lists the increased size that the show designers for DISCO increased her to so she wouldn't look small against the Disco, these increased sizes are roughly 1.5x bigger at 442m long, 201m wide and 93m tall, as the increased measurements appear in the show it technically makes them Canon and as such makes the DIS/SNW Connie around 1.5x bigger, making it harder to explain the size difference, outside of a major refit that drastically shortened, thinned and lowered her, not impossible, but not even the Connie II refit is that much bigger, the easiest way to go about it is to completely ignore the dedication plaque and go with the official TOS measurements that were used and shown in DISCO and consider the dedication plaque measurements as incorrect or a mistake, but then it doesn't change the fact they're there, so a major refit reducing the ship by a significant amount is really the only option left. That's not to say the SNW Connie looks bad, it doesn't, like any version of the Connie it's an absolute beauty.

The SNW version looks okay here, but in the show they have added a LOAD of windows around the saucer, making it look like a cruise ship.
The Original still looks pretty great half a century later IMO.

The TOS kirk enterprise is bigger and better hull. SNW pike Enterprise is like a prototype of final version. Just.
As it was in the original series before they changed it look at OG series. 3 big differences is the pylon's small hole.Biggest one is the bridge with that dam window in the submarine Thank you.Just lose power fire, torpedo or whatever and ship is destroyed after the bridge is taken out.

I'm probably in the minority but I really don't like the Discoprise/SNW Enterprise. The interiors are great, but externally it just looks messy to me - not as badly unbalanced as the Kelvin version(s) but like they couldn't commit. Sure, the nacelle pylons are swept back like the TMP/A refit, but they're not emerging from the secondary hull at the same place or angle so why, exactly, did they feel the need to make that change? The overall profile is lower and flatter, it's missing a whole deck off the top of the saucer, the impulse engines are in the wrong place to match either the TOS or movie versions... it's just baffling to me. And I don't like the darker hull and more reflective textures. Hunter 56 on ArtStation made a far better updated TOS design than what we got onscreen in DSC/SNW imho. The original is still the best :/

I don't mind the SNW enterprise, although I would have preferred if they didn't have all the black decals along the saucer section. If they really wanted them have them maybe barely darker than the main Hull colour, and honestly not a fan of the hole in the naccele arms, it just seems way too modern for 23rd century ships.

The Enterprise redesign is what I like the *least* about SNW. I agree with the other comments that point out that there are lots of ways to make Matt Jefferies’ timeless design look even more realistic and sleek without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. (in the end though, it’s a minor complaint; SNW is my favorite live action Star Trek now that S3 of Picard has ended! 👍)

Great comparison video. The new Enterprise is a hybrid of the TOS version and the ST Motion Picture version (e.g the warp nacelle struts).

I think the size is really off. If you look at strange New Worlds Port holes You’ll notice a difference. I think they have the same number of decks but I think strange new worlds decks are roomier so if anything the new ship is probably .5 times bigger

Both ships are beautiful. All though my heart belongs to the original

Like the video... but a couple things. The SNW Enterprise I've heard numbers of between 360m and 440m for length. In comparison the original TOS Enterprise is 289m.

Now, I actually like the exterior changes made to the Enterprise, even at the scale shown here, the swept back pylons, the purplish glow from the nacelles, etc.... Only exterior change not a fan of is the bridge window.

But I do not like a number of the interior changes. The bridge for example is ginormous in the SNW show, and the engineering I way preferred the TMP version..

The SNW ship is larger than the TOS ship but is the same ship
