It's interesting how age shifts our motivation. I've started learning chess (beyond how pieces move and the first two opening moves) when I was 39 because I'd like to play chess with my son.

But, you know. With streaming, chess players do have a greater potential source of income now, and can enjoy a better life if they are able to do well with it.
Money unlocks freedom to enjoy life more and do more things. Sadly chess for the majority does not bring in enough income for them to live freely.
