I am from one of the post-Soviet countries in Central Asia. And if you think Putin had any ounce of moral reasoning behind his Ukraine invasion, then you are blind or just a fanatic of his stature. The Russian government is always there to intervene and make sure there is no progress in all of its surrounding countries that in any way hinders Russia. They are not interested in symbiotic relationship, they are only interested in total obedience.

If Russia itself was a reliable partner and fostered its' neighbors' growth, neither Ukraine nor any other neighboring countries would be trying their best to stay as far away possible from Russia.

You just need to look at how Putin came to government to get an idea into his methods. He turned Chechnya into a slaughterhouse, killed as many people as possible,  installed a cruel and evil leader in the name of Kadyrov, who Chechnyans themselves hate. He instilled fear of war and terror into everyone and made sure the Russians want him as their leader lest they be killed by "enemies".

And it's not just Ukraine. Other countries suffered from it too. Did Georgia persecute Russians too? Yet Russia invaded Georgia.

Any sane leader of a country would do their best to stay away from Putin's Russia. They are deep in corruption and they are not a functioning government. The people who did not live in close proximity to Putin's Russia should not comment about him. He is very charismatic and his speeches are crisp, clear, and mesmerizing.

I am not condoning US foreign policy. But it has become popular to put others such as Putin on pedestal as if they are any better.
