How Do We Spend Our Time?

How we spend our time is one of the most valuable decisions we make, because time is one thing we can never get back once it’s gone. Maybe God is calling you to do something more with your time, in this very moment even, but distractions are pulling you in too many different directions to focus. Make no mistake, distractions steal our time, even those we willfully choose. Even worse, as St. Alphonsus Ligouri said, voluntary distraction can steal our soul.

Maybe there’s a dozen different things you know you should be doing, but you can’t choose one, so you choose none. If that’s the case, Fr. Mike says to take solace in the fact that you only have to choose one task, because the reality is that multitasking doesn’t work anyway. Holiness is to choose one thing, namely to say yes to God’s will. So choose your one sacrifice, and say yes to the focused and singular task of holiness.

..."To busy scrolling through, and watching someone else life..." instead of living the life God has given to me. That hit me hard and is something I will be thinking about from now on.

Many times we distract ourselves because we want to escape our reality, the tough things in our lives that we don't want to face or accept.

Oh my hat I'm at 11pm and Apart from not having my beloved husband anymore, I'm actually having a ball. On Sunday I went to Mass then later five friends and I went along the coast to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. On Monday I picked up a friend in town at the bus station and took her to her home. On Tuesday we had a home Mass and lunch at the home of the chairperson of our Women's Group. On Wednesday I drove 15 kms to pick up friend and bring her to Church for Bible Study. Did shopping on the way home. Thursday I'm taking another friend to hospital in the next town for x-rays. On Friday there is choir practice. In the afternoon I have to make three desserts for the Food Festival to be held on Saturday in the Convent grounds. I'm booked to do a 90 min stint selling pudding on Saturday morning. Today many seniors are still able to live full and productive lives. God bless you Fr Mike. Even though I'm an old person I always learn something from your videos.

Fr. Mike is relentless in his joy, his zeal for Jesus Christ, and his zest for life. His genuine and natural style with a winning smile makes him very compelling and almost impossible to dislike.

Oh my Jesus. Forgive us our sins. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy.

I probably have 7, maybe up to 10 years left. 10 years will make me 76. Loneliness is a terrible thing, so I don't watch TV. I read, study, pray, and pray some more, since few people visit except my caregivers. Time moves slowly, and yet I'm dying. Avoiding TV makes the time last longer.

This video screams living in the present moment. If we do that, we are free from distraction and are better able to choose God's will. Thank you Fr. Mike! See you at Steubenville next week!

During my career, an executive coach I met at a management class said that amidst everything that was urgent, we needed to make time for what was truly important. I never forgot it. One day, with a meeting to prepare for and several performance appraisals to write and various e-mails to answer, I spent half an hour leaning against the wall in the hallway talking quietly with a very junior, young employee in my group who had just gotten home from burying her brother. There was no contest, no question--that was by far the most meaningful part of that day. In retirement I am doing a lot of volunteering...all good, but I'm still seeking the focus for this part of my life.

I feel for you father Mike. You seem to think most of your life is over. One moment of our lives, at any age, with the Lord can be an eternity.

My time is to ask God to bless all the people who are watching this video and commenting on this video but I'm always happy to watch father Mike talk about God but I wonder When we get to heaven will see him there
