Critical Drinker explains why Hollywood seems to have such distaste for men. Is Hollywood anti-masculinity? Why are there no male role models any more? What does the future of movie making have for men?

Wanda holds an entire town hostage and forces them to do her bidding, but somehow she's NOT the villain of the story.

Most of my favorite movies can be summed up by the line "Hollywood wouldn't allow this to be made today."

Top Gun Maverick showcased masculinity AND femininity and no one was made to be less than due to their gender. You can have solid female characters without compromising the men in the story, too.

The irony of insisting on diversity in every film is that the medium becomes incredibly homogenous. It's like insisting that every song have an orchestral backing regardless of whether it's appropriate.

Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. Nothing but reboots and sequels nowadays with diversity quotas

We've had far too many woke flops now for it to be stupidity or ignorance, it's belittled everyone from Luke Skywalker and the Terminator to frickin' Lightning McQueen. Indiana Jones will no doubt follow. This isn't catering to a perceived audience, it's social engineering at any financial cost.

I think The Northman is an even better example of what they are talking about. The movie is the embodiment of masculinity itself and it hasn't recieved a single nomination by the academy when it should have been at least nominated for best picture.

I did a commercial photoshoot for a corporate that had the same requirement. "We want diversity, but do not depict males in leadership roles talking to females."

I'm from India and I just wander what MCU did with my favourite character (Thor).
It's totally insane 😭😭😭
Come on, he is Thor symbol of masculinity.
And how they(MCU) show him nowadays like a Clown. 😞😞😡

War on Art. War on Beauty. War on Competence. War on the West.

I just watched “007: The Man With The Golden Gun” and enjoyed the manliness of Roger Moore and virtually no feminism or woke liberalism there. I’ll probably just watch movies from the 60’s - 80’s from now on.

The strange thing is you can make fun of/subvert masculine heroes and still respect them. Big Trouble in Little China mocks it's main hero for being bad at being a hero. But he still was a hero and saves the day. They even subvert the "Hero gets the girl" trope in a way that makes him look smart.

If you want to tear down society then you need to target those who built and support that society - men.

I used to watch marvel movies and think "Awesome I can't wait to see what they do with this character!"
Now I think "oh god I know exactly what they're going to do with this character"

The irony is that the hollywood elite knew exactly how Harvey did his casting couch and still acted in his movies and heaped praise upon him for years. Only when enough people called him out did he become a pariah.

They ruined Thor as far as I am concerned. In the last movie they literally tuned him from manly man of my dreams to clown idiot who had to share his shine with an assistant Thor or whatever the female Thor was supposed to be. The scene with him being naked and laughed at was very offensive and disappointing.

Here's a good example of masculinity - the first three seasons of the Last Kingdom. After season 3 the writers changed and the series quickly degenerated into typical Hollywood trash, but the first three seasons were remarkable.

I think the main reason we don't see positive representation in TV shows and movies any longer is because the writers and producers all come from these urban centers where they grow up without a good example of a stable family, healthy marriage or relationships, good family bonds, etc. That's why every character is flawed or has a traumatic backstory, they see the world entirely through the lens of intersectionality, and their experience with life comes from other films, TV and theatre - so their creations feel like a clone of a clone. They're very obviously disconnected from human nature.

To be fair I found it's mainly the AAA titles that have gone crazy woke. There're still lots of smaller budget movies that are good

Top Gun not only respected the old hero from the previous movie, it even respected the old airplane from the old move as well.
