I feel real sorry for Trenton. You can see that loss got to him, and he did an amazing job. But in the end, it was a small stylistic choice that cost him the victory and I'm glad Chris won. His chakram wasn't stunning, but it did the job it was supposed to, and I'm glad he's not going to have to worry so much about his livelihood for the next year.

This episode was perfect. You had the guy with good tools and resources, he made a beautiful weapon and it still killed. Then you have your underdog, who doesn't have all the tools but still made a better weapon! The money goes to the guy who needs it most, and the other guy was a great sport, he was happy for him.

Awesome! :)

Trenton’s error is that he misunderstood the assignment. He made a circular dagger, not a chakram. It was too heavy to be thrown, and was clearly meant to be held in a close quarters combat situation, not as a distance weapon.

It was a very effective and beautiful weapon, but it wasn’t what the hosts wanted.

I can tell Trenton really used Xena as inspiration for his Chakram. He may have lost, but I'm sure people would pay him good money for his talent.

This looks like the healthiest competition show I’ve seen

The fact that he didn’t have much to work with and still won shows that u can do anything with whatever you have just put in the work

When trenton mentioned making a handle, I was like: "What? Handle? For a chakram?" And then I saw him making the Xenia thing and knew he'd lose if Chris' chakram didn't, like, explode.

This reminds me of a 5th grade boat race competition. I put a lot of work into it but a little too much passion as I was an artsy kid and added too much, making it it heavier. Lost to the most plain looking boat but I was still proud of myself. Couldn’t help but get “dust in my eye” like Trent did tho lol

Trenton was a gracious person! The line of “Chris is the kinda person that you wanna lose to.” Speaks volumes of his character

Trenton is fun to watch, old show but a very challenging piece to create, I agree with the judges in that it was historically designed as a throwing weapon, while Trentons was beautiful, it was weighty and you could tell as Doug was wielding it. The braiding was very cool imo.

Trenton had a gorgeous looking weapon, but it just goes to show that functionality will always trump asthetics.

One thing that consistently happens across episodes is the contestants don’t take ergonomics into consideration and end up losing. It must be the time crunch and the fact that it’s almost always their first time making a thing of this size and form factor that throw ergonomics out the window.

From the get go Trenton just felt over confident so to see him lose out clearly was a humbling experience for him

No need to add an extra level of sophistication to a weapon that has evilved for centuries. Simplicity is sometimes all it takes.

“That’s the kind of guy you want to lose to.”
Class act, even in defeat.

I think he had the tools, the experience and the skill to easily make the better weapown. But he straightup chose to embelish it and didn't do his research. Just like the guy said: "that handle means you entered the realm of fantasy". Real weapowns have always been simp´le, functional and practical. A pity

Once Doug says your weapon is heavy or any about the weight of your weapon in the first round of testing. 9/10 time you lose the competition.

If Trenton had gone with a more slender design than a braid it likely wouldn't have weighed as much - especially if you went out of your way to use a lighter metal or wood - he put such a bulky thing in a weapon that prioritizes aerodynamics so heavily. A roughly 5cm wide piece with a 1cm breaking point through the middle to help with any potential drag the center piece adds to the ring.

Fate always favors the humble. Thats the lesson here. Chris was a very down to earth guy from the very beginning and he deserves to win. I found it hilarious how over-confident trenton was just to fail in the end. Like he was ready to leave with the prize.
