Machine Gun Woodpecker - Flicker

We heard this flicker in our backyard. He has quite an unproductive hobby. A flicker is a type of woodpecker.

My aunt told me when they first moved into a little house in a small wood town, my uncle was convinced there was a serious problem with the furnace. He kept hearing it make this obnoxious knocking noise! He called a repairman over and he listened carefully to the issue and then he laughed. There was a flicker that had been nesting in their old chimney, and it kept getting in the vents and pecking away like a machine 😂

Had metal chimney covers on the houses in my former neighborhood. The woodpeckers that lived in the neighborhood began to use the covers to signal each other. Place sounded like a warzone.

I love these little guys because most woodpeckers don't eat on the ground but they do. They show up in my yard to yank grubs out of the soil and I respect that immensely

The Flicker used to do that during mating season at my old house 🤣 He loved the roof vents and he sounded just like that bird seeing how they're closely related to each other. He and his mate would hang from the songbird feeders and get what they could too. Very expressive faces and just generally cool birds that eat a lot of pests.
