The First PS5 Pro Enhanced Game is Confirmed!

It looks like a highly-anticipated upcoming console exclusive will be PS5 Pro enhanced at launch. Sony is expected to reveal its upgraded hardware within the next few weeks, but a hawk-eyed user noticed that the legendary Hideo Kojima posted a photo of himself playing Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and there’s something peculiar about the photo…

As spotted by X user Zuby_Tech, Kojima can be seen in the photo with a DualSense in his hand, which is plugged into a console that’s covered up with a black cloth. Considering we’re expecting to see both the PS5 Pro and Death Stranding 2 this month, we’re assuming that the game will launch with what previous reports claim will be a “PS5 Pro enhanced” label.

While the PS5 Pro reveal event has yet to be officially announced, Death Stranding 2’s presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2024 has been confirmed.

PS5 Pro Performance Metric Revealed!

Noted X leaker @‌Kepler_L2 says the PlayStation 5 Pro's GPU will perform on par with an AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT in rasterization. Its raytracing performance will be better thanks to the above mentioned features. Our in-depth Radeon RX 7700 XT reviewdetermined it could run most games at 4K 60, but not all. Of course, this isn't a fair comparison because PC and consoles are fundamentally different.

Unfortunately, the PlayStation 5 Pro might get bottlenecked by its aging Zen 2 CPU, which has only received a marginal change over its non-pro counterpart. Sony's in-house upscaling solution, PlayStation Super Resolution (PSSR), will have to pick up the slack to make games run at 4K 120 FPS and earn the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced tag. Either way, we should know for sure on September 9 when Sony will supposedly unveil it.

The whole 'pro' version thing is an excellent social-driven marketing strategy.

1. It keeps the product, as a whole, a relevant topic in the media.
2. It gives those who needed a little push the validation to upgrade from the previous generation (with an ego boost on their 'non-pro' gamers).
3. It scratches the itch for those who always want the latest of everything and those with FoMO (fear of missing out).

Personally, I'll give it a miss for the same reason I skip phone upgrades. My current one is great and chances are that without side-by-side comparisons I probably wouldn't notice a difference.

Still sticking with the PS4 Pro for a bit longer. I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD since I’ve had it, and it runs faster than the standard. Definitely planning to upgrade to the PS5 Pro when it comes out!

It's like the PS4 Slim and PS4 pro, quite similar but doesn't look like the original PS4. So it's just natural that the PS5 pro resembles the PS5 slim. Why cry about it?

I’m feeling better about my decision to skip the pro (based on what we know so far) and get a slim recently, as my first ps5. Took advantage of a good sale and reward money. There’s no F’ing way I’ll buy another console for at least four or five years.

There's no way there isn't gonna be a disc version. Way more people buy that than the discless version of the PS5 as it is. It's so weird how people speculate that there won't be one, simply from a supposed leak of one image of one of the versions, lol. But nevertheless, I've been waiting on the pro to drop to go next gen anyway, so I'll definitely be snagging one. It's only recently been necessary to upgrade to the PS5, so it's perfect timing

Ever since I got my gaming laptop I haven’t touched my ps5 and don’t plan on it until dragon ball sparking zero comes out. Not worried about another console until switch 2 and then the ps6 comes out way later.

I agree. I also have a Playstation 5 Slim Disc Version and I now have the Playstation 5 Pro. However, instead of taking the existing disc drive off of my Playstation 5 Slim Disc Version and putting it on my Playstation 5 Pro, I'm just going to buy an entirely new disc drive for my Playstation 5 Pro. This is mainly just for the ability to watch Blue Ray movies and for aesthetics as I think both of the newer generation consoles look better with the Blue Ray Optical Disc Drive. I'll use the Playstation 5 Pro primarily to play my games which are all digital anyway and use my Playstation 5 Slim Disc Version as a back up console for its extra storage in case all my digital games don't fit on my Playstation 5 Pro.
