My father had to make a few of these to match an existing nightstand. Between the Knapp joints and the hand carved drawer pull, it took all winter. In the end, you can not tell the difference between the original and his reproduction.

I love coming across furniture with these joints. Also, as a beginning woodworker, I want to sincerely thank you for the free plans you offer on your website. They're fantastic way to start!

And thus we all fall down the rabbit hole known as "decorative joinery." And it does look cool, especially with different species of wood to add contrast.

I've seen that joint on a couple of pieces over the years and never knew what it was called. Thanks for teaching me something new!

Once, on a lark, I used this joint to build a small Valentine's Day box for my granddaughter. However, instead of using round dowels, I cut heart-shaped profiles from the wood itself in both pins and coves. Now THAT was an exercise in caution. 😊
Thanks for the video.

My favourite joint! Id love to see a Knapp machine in action. Thank you for showing the variation with the through pins, really appreciated

(trying to carve these by hand, including the attached pins persuaded me to stick with power tools)

I love this! I'd maybe even use a different wood species for the dowels to it's clear to those that know that there's something different going on here 😅 I love leaving clues to how a piece has been put together on my furniture. It feels like I'm telling a story through a cabinet or whatever 😂

I actually have a piece of furniture with this particular type joint! I had no idea how old it was though I did understand it must have been made by a machine thanks for all of the history lesson!

For the life of me I can't see how a machine could do that so I'd love to see the machine! Now I have to go to some antique stores to see if any of them have drawers with Knapp joints!

I have a dresser with Knapp joints on the drawers. Never thought it was that old. It is something that my dad's family got in the 1940s, but they may have gotten it second-hand. All that aside, I really want to see how a Knapp machine made those. I am guessing a horizontal cutter to make the rounded ends and a hollow boring head to make the other half. Wouldn't really be too hard to make the tooling.

I enjoyed learning the history and I have to say I really like the look of the joint. I think I may give it a try sometime too. Thanks!

That was super cool to see and learn about, makes me want to experiment to try some visually and structurally different joinery. Well done!

I reground a annular cutter (from a mag drill) to cut the pins of these. I just use it with my drill press. Fun stuff!

Oh thank you for this video, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at this style of joinery. You sure know your craft James. Enjoy your day.

Neil Paskin (paskmakes) made some jigs to do these joints a couple years back on his channel. I like the look of these. I did not know the name of the joint or the history, thanks for sharing 😊

I have a night stand that has knap joints. It’s been in the family for at least 125 years. The joints are still tight.
