Since I recently purchased a used SR500, I figured it might be relevant to go through the most relevant things to look for when picking up a bike intended for a custom build

Great advice man! I too suffer from "impulse" purchases I think someone is developing a patch for that. Its a very common affliction and should be stamped out. :)

Just got myself a Yamaha tw 125. Turning it into a scrambler. Was going to go with the sr but the tw just looks so cool :)

Cool video as I'm thinking of buying a cafe racer, scrambler or a tracker next summer :) I've had really terrible luck with ATV's, so we'll see how my luck with bikes is...

I've bought 2 ATV's that were just rebuilt and the other one was totally "new and improved" in every way (they even put a really expensive Öhlins shock into a 1500 eur ATV), and that broke down on the way home. Headers were loose and fell on water hose that melted and naturally that was it for that day...swapped the hose, tightened the headers...the muffler exploded and I cracked the head tightening the bolts, so bought a new one with valves, had it installed...seized after 50km :D
The other one was just as bad with a "rebuilt" engine - crank wasn't swapped and it was crooked and it broke down after like 2 weeks, spewed out the oil and ruined the cylinder. It even had some symptoms like being hard to start, but I just didn't get that until it was too late.

I'm really looking forward to getting a bike that works...so done with cheap ATV's.

Isn't blue-ish white smoke the indicator that oil is being burned?

Hi I was considering buying a 90's SR250 and I noticed you don't mention something I think is relevant in your vid -which is great btw- and that's the km when buying a bike.
How many kms can an engine have for it to be still "in good shape"?
I know there's guy's running around with 70's bikes so maybe it's not really a factor?

My project bike is sitting in my living room. Yeah what's with YouTube? I sent you a comment seeing if you wanted 3 million euros but I didn't hear from you so I gave it to someone else.
