I don’t have 220v in my shop to run a big air compressor, and I use an HVLP gun - NOT an LVLP, so I used 2 smaller 20 gallon air compressors and T them together. Bought both of mine from FB market place for $80 and $120 so $200 total. Together they produce 14 CFM @ 90psi. Works like a charm. You just have to plug them in on different sides of the shop so they are running off of different breakers. Painted a 2003 ram 3500 dually crew cab long bed - complete repaint with pearl - came out amazing and never ran out of air! :) also use high flow Milton V style fittings - they make a big difference

This question was answered 3 years ago when UNDERGROUND PAINT KING used a 20 gallon and a cheap lvlp off of amazon. He truly is the peoples champ. He cared about us DIYers on a budget while everyone else just assumed we had thousands of dollars in tools laying around👌.

I used the Drizzle D1 to paint a 1979 C10 base and clear and it came out great. I used a 5hp 60 gal compressor. Didn’t do the whole truck at once. Did the cab separate from the bed. Used the R500 for the sealer and primer. I’m sold on the lvlp guns for an open shop. I really appreciate all the reviews on the guns. Thanks from SW Oklahoma, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the info.
I actually got a great tip from The Gunman as well.
I set the regulator to around 50 psi on my 25 gal Porter Cable compressor that puts out 5.1 SCFM and now I never have fluctuations while continuously using an LVLP gun.

I used 50L compressor for a whole car - 94 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I used HVLP gun because I was watching paintsociety and Brian was always talking about these guns. Even tho it was hard, it actually turned out great. Of course - there was a need for some cut and buff, but overall I was really happy with the result

I painted my Jeep CJ-7 with an R500 gun with the old Harbor Freight 21 gallon Central Pneumatic compressor which i think is about 4.5 CFM. Did I get a great finish? No, not really, but I'm an amateur and painted it outside with a cheap single state urethane. I'm really pleased at how it turned out, all things considered. You may have played a significant role in that. Thanks for all the education you provide!

As a non-paint guy that was really interesting. HVLP paint guns use more air than I’d have figured. I run that compressor in my garage, mainly because it isn’t super loud and is 110. With a 1.1mm tipped plasma cutter it won’t keep up with that either, but I rarely do long continuous cutting.

CFM @ pressure makes a massive difference. 5 CFM @40psi and 5CFM @90psi are totally different. Not sure how each gun and compressor is rated in this video, but worth mentioning.

I use that exact compressor with an Aeropro A610. It does a pretty good job repainting panels, not very noisy either.

This is exactly the question I wanted answered. Thank you!

I’ll be using a 29 gallon with the r500 on 50 ft of 3/8 hose. 5.3scfm for an entire vehicle. Sealer. 4 coats base, 4 coats clear. Wish me luck lol.

Very interesting. Chris, thanks, you have given me a bit more confidence. I'm planning on painting my whole car soon, and it'll be my first auto spray out. I have the exact HF compressor, and have had questions. The guns I have to use with it are the Eastwood LT100 and the AEROPRO A610.

man this is interesting 🤔...i think this compressor with the black widow would be another good review, i really think i can spray my mustang now...i appreciate this review...u the first i seen do it

The 4.5scfm rating for that compressor is likely for 90psi. Most compressors will also have ratings for various psi settings. The lower the psi, the higher the scfm.

BTW, I have a Binks, several cheap harbor freight guns, some spectrums, a 500, a Europe whatever, and a few others. I use the Binks for my clear because it was a $500 gun when I got it. The spectrum hvlp is my backup. Mostly because I have watched and wanted to see all the differences in manufactures. Which there are a lot.
