How To: Separate Honda Axle From Intermediate Shaft

This was on a 2003 Honda CRV, couldn't find video on how to do this and I've had them stick on a few cars before... After the outside part of the axle is disconnected... You just put something on the ridge and hammer it away from the transmission and toward the outside of the car. This is how the Honda manual recommends it, if you look it up in the service manual it will tell you the same thing.

I just found this video even though it's old. I normally don't leave comments on videos but this time I will. Your 90 second video saved my butt! I was struggling hard core on my wife's 2009 Accord passenger CV axle right at that damn intermediate joint. I did exactly what you said except I used a 12" Craftsman ratchet with the handle end against the axle lip thing instead of a screwdriver and a 2lb mini right out! Your post was the only video I could find about this. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!

Looks like you had to replace the axle I'm in the opposite position, my issue is the intermediate shaft bearing that's going bad

I did this today on my '98 CRV but instead of a screwdriver I used the removable post from one of my spare 3-ton ratcheting jack stands. I placed the end which normally gets positioned under the lift points ( the Y-shaped end) against the same area as he placed the screwdriver but the Y-shape allows you to get much closer to the centerline of the axle so it comes straight out....no wasted force being applied from hitting it from an angle near the outside edge. It took me two solid whacks with my 4lb mini sledgehammer and it was out...easy peasy. I wasn't looking forward to this job after reading some of the horror stories but thankfully I looked around my garage and came up with a great solution to a common problem.

Unfortunately, due to the design of this connection on my '05 Pilot I don't think there's enough access/clearance to allow this method to work...might need a slide-hammer.

Meanwhile here on my 300, 000 mile Camry I have been using a 36 inch pry bar and a 3 lb mini sledge. The thing still won’t come off

Did you pull the intermediate shaft then separate it or left it and separated it on the car everything I'm reading says to pull everything so you dont damage the bearing and how was the reversal did it snap right back the bearing quite easily?

I want to replace my int shaft on my 2010 accord but trying to reverse bolts n nuts that have been rusted on for over 5 years seems pretty much impossible to do. plus the exhaust is in the way, and I don't have enough leverage from underneath the car. I wish there was a vid on how to do this.

If my axle is not tight enough to shaft assembly, what should I do? (can I hit the end of the axle (without unscrewing lower, upper joint bolts)) (just unscrew an axle nut and hit the axle end with a rubber hummer? )
