If you've seen video of a wind turbine blade being transported on a huge flatbed truck trailer - which no doubt you have - you'll know just how enormous those things are. A toroidal blade would be that plus a vast amount of extra bulk because of its shape, so it's probably unlikely toroidal blades will become common on wind turbines. I can see them becoming quite the new thing on submarines though, where a need for high efficiency and low noise is paramount.
