This NEW European Wind Turbine for Home Out Perform PV Solar Panels in 2024?!

The O-Wind Turbine was invented by two students from Lancaster University in the UK, who won the James Dyson Award in 2022 for their innovative design. The device consists of a spherical structure with vents that allow the wind to flow through it from any direction. The wind causes the sphere to spin around a fixed axis, which is connected to a generator that produces electricity. The device is small, lightweight, and easy to install, making it ideal for urban and residential areas where space is limited and wind conditions are unpredictable. Unlike conventional wind turbines, the O-Wind Turbine does not require a minimum wind speed, direction, or height to operate, and it does not produce any noise or visual pollution.

There web site is useless. Don't show us your dreams. Give us a finished product with a way to order. Make it a unit that can plug into a controller to charge a battery bank and power a home. Anything else is just your aspirational wet dream.

Nice concept of a multi directional wind turbine. I would add to my battery system along with my solar power system.

Is there a link to the independently verified power curve?

I live in Ontario Canada and would like to know if you have done any cold weather testing? Also, how could I buy some and at what price? Gregory MacDonald 🎉

It appears to me that having solar and wind is better if you can keep the install costs down. DYI.

Do not show us children toys and graphics, show a working model with output reading, wind turbine are all going to landfills, thanks to China for make solar panel cheap.

aha. photovoltaic many different kinds which one. toy pv? which is 5v, .1 amp. or those rooftop pv which is either 10 or 12 volt at 1 amp (smallest)? did OP mean multiple panels of which kind? does not even say what kind photovoltaic panels or sizes thereof.
IF IF youtuber was directly talking about wind power or wind energy output so forth, would made a good video. but unfortunately the title is "establish a lie" being able to out perform PV thus OP is supposedly demonstrating electrical energy, not companies nor the wind energy.

Since double fallacy is given, clearly this is CLICKBAITING. I am reporting them, no money for fake facts.

Instead of being in competition, turbines and solar panel should complement each other. One works only in the sun, while the other works when there is no sunlight. The use of both generation systems guarantee 24 hour per day electricity generation.

You can't claim that something outperforms something else if you're comparing a frog with a pineapple. That's just asinine.

Quote "The O-Wind turbine claims to have an output of 200kWh which is enough to power a small appliance or charge a battery." This is total nonsense of course. Our whole house and car charging is around 200-350 kWh per month. I think they are confusing their kilo watts and kilo watt hours. "PV solar panels have a typical power output of 250 kWh per square meter". Again this is nonsense. A typical solar panel these days produces around 400 watts in ideal conditions which in an hour would produce 0.4 kWh. He is talking about watts not kilo watt hours. He says the O-wind turbine uses water for cooling. Really? Existing wind turbine tech is good and getting better. This new design may have some potential in some situations but they will need to be much bigger than a football.

Keep in mind power is P[W]=½*ρ*A*V³*Cp (where ρ=1.225 air density, A=area of turbine in m², V=wind speed in m/s and Cp is a in range 0.1 for this turbine - you can check, it's widely known equation). So turbine of diameter 3 foot can create about 10W of energy at the wind 6.5m/s (which is a quite strong for urban locations).

It is pronounced Turbine, NOT Turban…….It is not an Arabic Hat. !!

Why is the narrator saying 'oh wind' as in winding something up? It's O-WIND as in the wind that blows. Damned annoying.

Absolutely horse manure. They don't know difference between kw and kwh!

How can I grab one in Nigeria. I need it and desire to be a distributor.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!*
Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. It is also extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life.
Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should buy a small wind turbine for the winter.
*With solar modules, on the other hand, reliably generate electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

DONT BE FOOLED BY THESE ADVERTS, PEOPLE.
THEY NEVER SHOW THE PROTOTYPE CONECTED TO A GENERATOR. GENERATOR OF SMALL SIZE NEEDS TO ROTATE "AT THE SPEED OF SOUND" TO GENERATE DECENT KW LOL

I've already have solar and a battery, I would like to add a wind turbine. This wind turbine looks extremely promising and it could possibly be added to my existing set up as long as its output could be sent via a mains phase controlled inverter. As soon as it's market ready, I'll be sure to be looking out for the
"O-wind" turbine.

*NONSENSE! All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!*
Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. It is also extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life extremely!
Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid & live close to the sea, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high mast.
*With solar modules, on the other hand, reliably generate electricity for 25 to 30 years at approx. 2% to 5% oft he cost of small wind turbines!*

Solar panels give out 250Kw hours?
For a start, forget the hours part, it is meaningless at this point.
Solar radiation is between 1-1.2 Kw per square meter. Solar panels are around 20% efficient.
So that means 200-240 watts per square meter.
Your numbers are out by a factor of 1000.
Total rubbish.
