You can have one character start a dialogue, while having another cast hold person on the vendor. So long as the npc is held in a dialogue the timer on the spell never decreases so you have all the time to take what you want.

Also, Withers at your camp does not care... you can pick pocket him all day, get caught, and nothing happens. Get refunds for all your Withers expenditures.

Gift a whole bunch of items to the Merchant so that their attitude is +100 with you. This makes them an "ally", allowing you to cast the level 3 spell Feign Death on them. Then go into turn-based mode, drop a Fog Cloud and have your pickpocket do their work

Edit: Once your Pickpocket's done, have them warp back to camp so that they aren't around when they wake up

Find Familiar can also work well with it. If you go with the cat, it's meow will make everybody look at it and come over to it (at least most NPCs anyway), makes it so you can lure merchants away to better places or lure away those who are watching them. Makes it so you can pickpocket people who otherwise are always covered by somebodies line of sight. You can also get a chest piece from the mountains that gives you Cat's Grace and a +2 to dex score, real easy way to get to 20 Dex. Bit out of the way but it's there plus it could lead to getting the mace from the monastery, which if you're running a cleric anyway, definitely something you'll want to pick up.

From what I have tested, bonus from expertise is not applied (tested at Tactician difficulty), you only get bonus from pickpocket profficiency (what I can read in game's combat log) and also from bonuses like guidance, items etc.

I’m on act 3 and have only stolen two items this entire game. A key to release a “cute kitty” and a letter I found for a quest giver that I wanted to read after giving it back sealed

so i tried after i got karlack w me to kill in putrid grove n the merchant has a few good loots to get, But killing him seemed a bit dumb because i have alot of stuff to sell at this point.

But read about pickpocketing and casting cloud or fog of something n just gave up n killed everybody in eyesight(also not smart i think, but good experience i guess)

So watching videos seemed to be my best way to learn how to do it after a few failed attempts

Thanks

There's the +18 Dex gloves, if you don't have +18 already. I can't remember when I got them in act 1 but I know I've had them for a while.

thanks for the info. Got my 7k back after buying stuff. nice.
