There is plethora of inaccurate information here, but I don't think it's done intentionally. Clinical psychologists are doctors who specialize in mental illnesses & behavioral health. Clinical psychologists are actually able to prescribe psychotropic medications in 7 states (i.e., New Mexico, Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa, Idaho, Colorado, & Utah) as well as the Public Health Service, Indian Health Service, the U.S. military, & the U.S. territory of Guam.

Additionally, clinical psychologists are able to diagnose, provide clinical/psychological assessments, psychotherapy, intelligence tests, & personality tests. They receive extensive knowledge & practice in psychopathology (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) via research, coursework, externships/practica, clinical internship, & postdoctoral fellowships. Psychopathology is a major foundation in clinical psychology training. It's much more than just emotions they treat, for that's only a small portion of what they do.

To better understand someone's field of study (e.g., clinical psychology) it's ALWAYS best to ask them OR do an interview w/ them on what they do as oppose to leaning on information that's inaccurate & not confirmed by said individuals practicing within that field.
