There is a time and a place for every type of drumming. Sometimes we get to go nuts on the kit as that is the intention of the performance. Other times it's all about just straight solid feel. One of my all-time favourite drummers is Steve Jordan for this exact reason, I think he's got the best feel in the biz. - Jared

I started playing drums late at 15. I lived in the navajo reservation far from any cities. I taught myself to drum and barely realized with jareds videos i was doing double stroke, parradiddle etc. But to all young drummers out there, I only wished youtube existed back then, now im 30. Take advantage of the free tools on the internet :)

The drummer that inspired me to start drumming when i was 15 is Lars Ulrich, I've been air drumming since then, I never got any official lessons and I learned almost everything by ear through songs, I got my drum set at December 2011, drummed for almost only 1 year, I also want to thank FDL because u guys taught me techniques to add stuffs to my drum solos =D

Good drum solo! I especially like the footwork! I started playing when the internet was only an idea, not a reality. If there was no teacher, the only way to learn drums was to listen to lots of records and watch what the local drummers were doing. You would take this knowledge and practice, practice, practice. Now of course it is easier with internet and lots of great videos from yourself and others. One thing has not changed - you still have to practice! Thanks for posting!

Teachers and the way they pass their knowledge and skills is very important - not only in drumming btw. Therefore thank you and your friends for being the good ones. You are my first teacher, then it happened to be Mike, Lionel and Dave - and I started last year being 46 - just a small handicap :-), but I don't pretend to become a professional drummer either :-)

I'm in the same boat, I started playing at around 15-16 and I'm 19 now and i consider that starting late as well but I've learned a lot of different and unique techniques and methods and styles to drumming

Awesome Jared, I can't agree more. My first teacher was an excellent drummer with great tecnique. He gave me the foundation and tools. Then I moved ot my second teacher. He is teaching me ot use those tools to build the house. I know how you feel about getting different ideas form teachers. It's just like having different idols with different feels. Great video, and are Casey drums custom? How do you like them?

I just bought a used Pearl set after having hung up my sticks nearly forty years ago. I started at about age six on an old (even at that time) Slingerland set that used REAL calf skins.... what a great sound they had. After watching a number of your vids on Youtube I am finally starting to get comfortable on the drums and getting some of my old skills back. So I wanted to thank you for making them and I only have one negative what with all the freakin' double bass work?! Thanks JF
