You don’t need an off-stage assistant at all, nor does Emily even have to memorize the stacked deck, with today’s microprocessors and voice recognition software, when Emily clearly repeats “6 of Spades” into the microphone, the next recording out of it will be “47” as the cards positions are already programmed into the microphone microprocessors. Notice how the deck wasn’t shuffled or cut but just presented as a stack.

Her trick was suspicious right off the start. There was no shuffle, and she should have called Penn and Teller to participate. Clever way of cheating this ACAAN, but I wasn't impressed.

At the 2:18 mark, the magic trick is revealed. I suppose the pressure on stage in front of P&T, hundreds of people and the TV cameras made the guy NOT protest the audio switching of his number from 17 to 47.

I don't get it. Why didn't they guy say something? It would have ruined the whole trick but I still don't get why he didn't say something or have more of a reaction. And how did this fool Penn & Teller? I can get behind the fact that the magicians are allowed to have a backstage assistant, but if P & T know this then how were they fooled? They knew she had an assistant they just didn't know how he was helping her? They've done tricks similar to this. I mean it fooled me too but it's just so elaborate and relies on a lot of different things to go right. Personally, I'd mix it up and let the card itself be a free choice but somehow force the position. Of course, that probably wouldn't have fooled two of the world's greatest magicians....

Ahhhh, I believe it after rewatching the video. He makes a facial expression whenever she repeats '47'. Seems awfully risky expecting the audience member not to say anything though.

The fact that there was no banter about 47 being so far down makes sense now. Usually a magician would joke about having to go through so many cards.

The man doesn't comment on the numbers because Emily has already briefed the guests beforehand. She specifically asked them not to react, and to pre-select the number or card they want to choose. This way, they can give their answer immediately without hesitation. There's a lot of skill involved in this act, with subtle techniques at play that many may not notice, which make it all work seamlessly.

Once she told him not to react and then changed his answer, she basically makes the guy an instant stooge. Which I believe is also against the rules.

Interesting theory, but the reaction of the two spectators just is not consistent with this at all. They'd have reacted far more obviously, and there's a HUGE possibility that one or the other would just completely blow the trick to smithereens right away.

What if the man appealed on stage ang said that 47 was not his choice, is that possible? If I were the man I would have said "I did not say 47."
