'For If We Sin Willfully' Hebrews 10:26-27 Explained | Once Saved Always Saved?

In this video, I discuss a passage that is often cited by proponents who oppose once saved always saved. Does Hebrews 10 contradict eternal security? What does it mean to "sin willfully" after having received the knowledge of the truth? I pray this video provides clarity and dispels confusion concerning this subject. God bless! -OD

One thing I have learned from reading the bible as a new Christian is that context is extremely important especially cultural context and to not just read it plainly without looking into it, thanks for the video!

God will chastise His children when they willfully sin, I have been chastised quite severely. The Lord has taken away my peace at times, He has taken away my assurance, He has caused me to be greatly afraid and I believe that He did these things so that I would come running back to Him and away from those sins that I was caught up in. On more than one occasion I have been completely broken down mentally, physically, spiritually because of fears and doubts and because of temptations and all I can do in these times is call out to the Lord for salvation. Everytime that this has happened the Lord has been there, He has thankfully not left me desolate, He breaks down all of the fearful immoral constructions of my flesh and of the devil and leaves me with only Him as my sole object of focus. it is only Him that I can call on when I am truly in trouble, it is only Him who stills my troubled mind, this is the great assurance of the Lord that when you are stripped and laid bare without hope the Lord Jesus Christ remains standing and He stands alone as the only thing that you can grab a hold of because everything else in your mind, body and soul has crumbled but the Lord and Him alone still remains standing.

That verse used to frighten me so badly. This is such a good explanation. Although no matter how secure I am in the hand of Jesus, I still have no desire to go do wrong things. There still are repercussions in life. I wanna live a life that's glorifying to God

This interpretation is spot on! The letter to the Hebrews talks about the old sacrificial system and then the new covenant of Christ rendering that old system null and void. The chapter ends with a warning to not "shrink back."
Praise our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! ❤ 😊

If these phrases are grossly mistranslated they could imply that any believer that "slipped up" or in a "moment of weakness" committed a sin, even as minor as over eating, oversleeping, anger or lustful desire, would completely lose their salvation. In other words it would be as if Jesus never came and accomplished His great work for us, and no one would be able to "maintain their salvation" by "never sinning". Yet, there are some people that still preach this. Thanks for your explanation and clarification. I have heard it explained this way before.

As a backsliding Christian I came back to the Lord Jesus several years ago but everytime I read this I was trying to figure it out. So you have helped a grandmother. Thank you very much. God bless. Prodigal daughter ❤️ 🙏🏻✝️

What do people not understand NOTHING is of a person to please God. It is impossible to please God besides Faith-(Hebrews 11:6)
John 6:28-29 (KJV) Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
Jesus answered and said unto them, THIS IS THE WORK OF GOD, THAT YE BELIEVE ON HIM WHOM HE HATH SENT.

If we can lose salvation by sinning willfully, all of us would fail.

Only JESUS lived perfectly.

Amen. That verse has been used out of context so many times to condemn members of the body of Christ. Context is so important, otherwise people can make a verse say whatever they want without considering what the author was writing about, and who they were writing to. Like Hebrews!! Hello!! 😄👍

Today I was doing a deep study on this passage and this verse stumped me. It's awesome to see you break this down literally 24 hours ago! Perfect timing.

Bro I appreciate your video, thank-you. I was doing my read this morning and really felt a punch in the heart. I would never look for an excuse to sin. I want to honor God with my life.. but I constantly mess up.

I had this wrong for years. I stressed out thinking I wasn’t nice enough, wasn’t out feeding the poor or standing on the street corner praying and speaking with people about the word. Yes I should be doing these things but sickness and family/ children issues kept me beyond heartbroken but I prayed, prayed on my knees, prostate on the fly and was studying scripture. Miraculously I am getting fixed, thank you VA after 5 years, and my children are making progress. I found several churches I was open to in my town, but the teaching was scrambled in many areas, or had no substance about salvation. Finally I went with my mom to her tiny church. Only 30 people or so, mostly over the age of 70. First day there, boom he nailed it
Grace, not works. Works, meaning spiritual and physical help to others is a natural organic result of it.
So simple I about fell out of my seat and started crying and seeing the scripture and my relationship with Jesus and God in a new way, that i over complicated due to lack of understanding
