Samara is the best female voice in jazz today. So reminiscent of Sassy - but has her own sound. Every time I hear her it is bitter sweet as it brings back memories of my deceased mother who loved Sarah Vaughn and introduced me to jazz - with her equal love of Stan Kenton. And Emmet - he is at the top of his game and a super talent. Love his Monday night concerts "From Emmet's House".

I once heard a Broadway composer explain why the great standards have held up so well over time. His notion was that they were written to be part of a story line, a theatrical event that had an emotional intent. The lyrics were usually written first, with the melody and chords added to that.
