It is very important to memorize God’s Word, and it isn’t as hard as you may think. It does take effort, but the more you it the brain learns how to memorize quicker. I am 70 years old and in the past month I have memorized the first chapter of the book of Ephesians and several other verses. I do not have a super memory and just a couple months ago I did think I could memorize scripture. But I can, I have and you can, too.

I started memorizing 4 months ago. Almost 100 verses now. I am 70. Wish I would have started when I was 20.

We surely have to admire, and then emulate, Scripture-lovers such as Tom. Dismally failing school's poetry memory efforts and with age reinforcing the overt message that I have a dud memory, God's gentle leading me through Wesley's 'Christ whose glory fills the skies' has invigorated the discovery that all things are possible. Although I still get the Psalms mixed up, Ps19, 73 & 139 have slowly added to my repertoire, to my joy and amazement! I do pray that when 'mind and memory flee' [Montgomery, J; 1771-1854 'According to Thy gracious WORD'], I will be left with the ability to believingly recite. Sola gloria Deo.

If you think people reciting scripture while trying to have a reasonable debate with someone is going to change anyone's mind, well good luck with that. It doesn't work.

This looks like an extreme display of pride. You're not preaching the word of God you're just showing off.
