To interpret the term " sheildmaden" amongst the Celts is " targer". The targer women would protect the villages when the young warriors were away. Women were also in Celtic legend the trainers of the young warriors in guerilla warfare in the most hazardous conditions in the mountains on the Isle of Skye Scotland, as legend tells in the story of the great Warrior Cuhullin in Irish folklore

Thanks, great! TV show Vikings took liberties with relationships and timeline to showcase famous Vikings, and wanted to showcase shield maidens so Laegetha has bigger role.
