Honestly, just moving your SD Card from one handheld and placing it into a different system would've been much faster and less painless.

Honestly the fact a process like this is still needed in 2016 is a bit ridiculous....Really need to get with the times Nintendo and start attaching downloads etc to Usernames with an online system instead of to hardware itself. I love my New 3DSXL and 2DS but seriously the transfer process is just stupidly outdated and anti consumer.

Based on what I'd heard, I had concern that the transfer process would give me some difficulty, but it was a relatively painless (and not too lengthy) process to transfer about 8gb of data. That said, it's still way more complicated a setup than it needs to be to simply move my user info and saved files to a new system, and I also think the onscreen instructions could've provided a little more clarity as they walked me through the steps, since I did momentarily fear I might've made a mistake and lost all my data at one point before swapping out the cards.

I wish there was a way to do it via the account only. My 3DS got stolen a while ago, and I lost a bunch of games, plus my Ambassador Program content. :(

Nintendo, you're telling me that you couldn't have a simple 3ds data transfer server, where someone could upload there data, give the old formatted 3ds system to lets say, gamestop to get the discount on the new 3ds, then just download the data on the new 3ds? whats the point of giving us a gamestop discount when we trade in our old system if we need both to tranfer data?

Legit I was thinking about getting a new 3ds xl but now that I know its so hard to file transfer, I am probably not going to get it. I love Nintendo and all but they really have to fix this.

I transferred a few hours ago, my heart skipped a beat when the New 3DS XL didn't recognize the Micro SD card the first time around, but thankfully it worked the second time and it all works great now!

Just to clarify, step 13 can be done first, right? So I could back up my old SD card (copy files to PC), put it back in the old 3DS, and then initiate the system transfer?

This is useful for digital downloaded games. The wireless transfer will not allow digital game data to be transferred, so doing this option is much better if you have save data on digital games.

Please keep the AC adapters connected on both consoles to ensure that the console(s) does not turn off during the system transfer.
