I can vouch for the pain of the man of war. I ended up being stung when I was 12 by a heap of them all over my back and legs. I’ve never been in so much pain before or since. My body went numb and I was struggling to breathe. Luckily I got to the hospital in time. I still have the tiny long scars all over my back.

When we lived in Hawaii and I was about 11 years old I got in the path of a Portuguese man of war, didn't know what it was and was trying to brush it away from me only to get stung a whole bunch more! Rushed me to the beach medical center and was told to put meat tenderizer on the stings and throw me back in the water! So I wouldn't be afraid to go in the water.
