Episode 3 of the Autocar Vodcast Middle-Aged Tread finds Matt Prior and James Disdale reviewing a BMW i5 Touring M60, the incredibly quick version of BMW's electric executive estate car.

The i5 is a cracking car, thinks Prior. This M badged product is capable of going from 0-62mph in just 3.9sec, has four-wheel drive, and incredibly sophisticated suspension. Disdale isn't quite so convinced by BMW's £100,000 electric estate.

I really like the trend of big, uninterrupted glass roofs. Almost nobody ever opens a glass roof and the pillar in the middle of an opening roof just blocks the view for rear seat passengers.

Sexier than mpv? No, current SUV are mpvs with a front hood (mostly empty). Cars should not be allowed to be called SUVs unless they have AWD and a minimum ground clearance

I’m enjoying these Vlogs as much as the weekly “My week in cars” podcast, As it’s lovely to see a couple of guys chatting but reviewing the vehicle in a much more imaginative way to most of the reviews on YouTube, keep it up guys, loving it!

Good video - I am biased as I have a 40 touring incoming, but I do find it interesting that Matt, who is living with the car rates it more highly than purely from a road test. BMW sales are up across the board because owners love them beyond road tests and the online forums screeching about how they are ugly and heavy.

As a side comment, the three way test you referred to with a Tesla and E53 somewhat backs this up, it came third n your eyes despite having "the plushest ride, vault like levels of refinement" and the best feeling, screwed together interior.

To refer to the Tesla only being available as LHD as giving it a feeling of "exoticism" is frankly ridiculous, that is a significant drawback, and to just gloss over it is laughable. The things that actually matter to buyers the BMW has in spades, as Matt is finding out.

Be interesting to do one of these in an E class estate in 450d exclusive plus trim and does it feel like 90k of luxury

Quite enjoying this series! Agree with seeing you do a chat in the EX30, it seems to provoke opinions!? That BMW is not very efficient though. If you’re only getting a 250 mile range that’s less than 3miles per kwh

Golf R estate does the job for considerably less. Shame there isn't an EV version. ID7 Tourer GTX is as close as VW gets so far.

The first generation Renault Scenic was the only car we have had two of, unless you count a Mk2 Focus 1.6 and an RS, which I don't in my mind. The Scenic was great for small kids, SO practical but in a small footprint.

Good to hear some commentary on estate cars that aren't that great at load lugging. The 3er Touring in particular is terrible in this regard

I agree totally with the comments about touchscreens, and that cockpit seems to have a particularly bad case of them. And 2.4 tonnes is shocking for a 5 series.

100, 000 pounds, that is an obscene price, where does this all end ? A car with features drivers aren't even asking for, now standard, yet dulling the experience!

Lots of mumbling, heard about 50%. Good ride, he says, while bouncing up and down on his seat

Matt does need to work on his diction for videos and podcasts - every sentence tails off into nothing.

Lovely car / estate, but sadly the now lack of opening rear glass on hatch has finally put it out of my choice, please god BMW go back to what people truly want / deserve 🫣
